Job Summary
An opportunity has arisen for a qualified dental nurse to work in our busy Oral Surgery Outpatient Department part time 16 hours per week. The ideal person will be an enthusiastic hard working person. The successful candidate must hold a current GDC registration. The successful candidate must have excellent communication skills and a positive approach to patient centred care.

Main Duties of the Job
As the qualified dental nurse, you will assist the clinician in all oral surgery procedures, providing support and advice to the patient in the oral surgery department. You will demonstrate compliance with the responsibilities and registration to practice with the General Dental Council

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job Responsibilities
We are looking for a dedicated professional to join our dynamic Oral Surgery service.

You will work as part of a team providing a high level of clinical care within the Oral Surgery Service.

As well as working in Clinics you will be trained to work within a theatre setting assisting in local anaesthetic lists and working within the multi-disciplinary team in the head and neck oncology clinics.

Position is 16 hours over 3 afternoons. This may change to cover service needs.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • NEBDN National Diploma in Dental Nursing
  • Minimum of 4 GCSE's
  • Verifiable Professional Development hours.

Desirable
  • Experience of assisting in oral surgery procedures.

Special Requirement
Essential
  • Ability to organise own and the work of others whilst under pressure
  • Currently working wihtin a dental practice or hospital setting

Desirable
  • Hold a current post within a general dental practice or hospital environment

Statutory Registration
Essential
  • GDC Registration of Dental Nurses
  • Evidence of PDP and continuous education

Desirable
  • Evidence of PDP and continuous education.

Specials Skills & Knowledge
Essential
  • Knowledge of all dental procedures.
  • Assisting the dental officer in all clinical dental procedures.

Desirable
  • Dealing effectively with medically compromised patients.

Experience
Essential
  • Minimum 2 years chairside experience
  • 2 years chairside experience post registration

Desirable
  • Supervising of junior dental nurses.
