Job summary
This post is for internal applicants only. This role requires an enthusiastic and proactive member of staff to work at a senior level within the Fluoroscopy and X-Ray team. This is a fantastic opportunity for career progression and the ability to become involved in influencing positive change within the department.

This role includes covering both the fluoroscopy and x-ray services delivering care to our local population, with participation in out of hours working. You will work closely with the Lead Radiographer to help maintain, support and improve our department and services.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will show leadership qualities required to support and guide a team of staff in fluoroscopy/X-Ray, practicing a variety of skills and experience.

The post holder will be an integral part of the Radiology team, working closely with colleagues to ensure smooth delivery of care for the patients, whilst maintaining Radiographic standards and promoting good practice to Radiographers & Radiology students.

The staff member will be responsible for promoting the continuing professional development of other Radiology personnel and is expected to engage with Clinical Governance in the department.

To adhere to good practices of Radiographic technique and abide by the acknowledged safe practices of radiation protection standards.

To assist in the day-to-day running of the Radiology department and to act as a support to the Lead Radiographer through delegated duties. Eg. Rotas, annual leave etc.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities
  • Deliver high precision imaging, safely positioning patients and equipment, adjusting exposure parameters, and producing diagnostic images of the highest standard with Fluoroscopy and X-Ray.
  • Manage and prioritise your workload to ensuring efficient use of resources within your scope of practice.
  • Promote a collaborative, supportive team culture, ensuring everyone contributes to delivering a high-quality service.
  • Champion outstanding patient care, ensuring every clinical duty is carried out to a high professional standard.
  • Provide day to day leadership, including managing workflow (flow duties) within the X ray department to keep services running smoothly.
  • Work to the highest standards of radiation protection, adhering to IRMER and always promoting safe practice.
  • Promote teamwork to provide a high-quality service and a positive working environment for all staff members.
  • Respond effectively to equipment issues, following procedures to minimise disruption and maintain safe service delivery.
  • Maintain awareness of current trends & developments in all aspects of screening procedures & actively participate in CPD.
  • Ensure that all incidents and complaints are recorded. Ensuring that complaints that cannot be dealt with locally are managed and passed to the appropriate person.
  • To participate in the Clinical governance activities within the Radiology Directorate.
  • Participate in the out of hours service provision.
  • To carry out any other reasonable duties, in line with banding, as required to support Line Manager.

Qualifications
Essential
  • BSc/MSc/DCR Radiography
  • 2 years post registration experience
  • Commitment to CPD

Desirable
  • Post qualification experience with time spent in Fluoroscopy
  • Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS)Training

Statutory Registration
Essential
  • HCPC Registration

Special Skills & Knowledge
Essential
  • Ability to act as a lead, negotiate and positively influence team relations
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to areas of work and the department
  • Assertive and able to advocate on behalf of patients
  • Confident and capable to manage challenging situations
  • Approachable and able to build relationships with a variety of colleagues

Experience
Essential
  • High level of competence and knowledge in Fluoroscopy and X-Ray imaging.
  • Good knowledge of Clinical Governance
  • Excellent knowledge of QA programmes for Fluoroscopy and X-Ray

Desirable
  • Audit and benchmarking experience
  • RPS experience

Special Requirements
Essential
  • Able to travel across Trust sites to meet the requirements of the post
