Job summary
*This job is 0.2 WTE 7.5 hours as part of a job share*

We invite current members of the Childrens Bladder and Bowel Team to apply to support the current lead in their role of leading service delivery, quality improvement and safety. While this will be a dimension of the role due to the current business needs, the core role is to work in in conjunction with the current postholder to effectively manage the service and deliver it in a manner compliant with NICE guidelines.

This role is conducted as a clinical and non-clinical hybrid role. Core elements of the role include:
  • To assess patients, to develop, plan, implement and monitor care. To provide highly specialist advice. Maintains appropriate records.
  • Lead specialist nurses in paediatric bladder and bowel service with managerial responsibility for the service and the employees within the service.
  • Provides specialist education and training to other staff, students and/or patients/clients Undertakes research and leads clinical audits in own specialist area.

Main duties of the job
Core dimensions and expectations of the individual, to execute themselves in their own practice whilst ensuring other do so include:
  • Take a lead role in assessment, diagnosis and treatment of caseload of patients/clients.
  • Undertake a detailed physical and nursing examination, formulates a diagnosis, initiates investigations and/or treatments and makes onward referrals as appropriate to role.
  • Act as an individually accountable practitioner.
  • Maintains records as autonomous practitioner.
  • Maintain and support high levels of skills around assessing and managing risk.
  • Accepts the responsibility for decisions made and actions taken; exemplifying learning from mistakes.
  • Line manage registered nurses and play specialists within the service

About us

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

  • Registered Nurse (Child) on part 1 of the NMC register

Experience
Essential
  • Significant experience of specialist paediatric bladder and bowel nursing.
  • Experience of leading and managing a specialist nursing service

Special Skills & Knowledge

  • Ability to assess and interpret specialist patient/client conditions and take appropriate actions.
  • Assess needs and develop and implement specialist nursing care programmes and/or specialised health and education programmes for patient/clients, carers and relatives.
  • Ability to communicate and provide specialist advice to patients/clients, carers, relatives and other professionals demonstrating empathy and reassurance.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of integrating research and evidenced based practice, into clinical work.
