Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (Band 7) 12-Month secondment / Fixed term post

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join the specialist multidisciplinary team at Parkview Clinic, a regional inpatient mental health service for children and young people. The service provides specialist care for young people across both general adolescent and eating disorder inpatient wards.

In this role, you will deliver specialist assessment, formulation and intervention for young people with speech, language and communication needs, including autistic young people and those presenting with complex mental health needs. Working autonomously and as an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care, support service development initiatives, and provide clinical leadership through supervision, training and consultation to colleagues and partner agencies.

Person Specification
Essential

• Demonstrable ability to meet the Trust's Values
• MSc or BSc in Speech and Language Therapy
• RCSLT registered
• Registered with Health and Care Professions Council
• Relevant postgraduate continued professional development and significant evidence of clinical experience.
• Active continuing involvement in appropriate CPD
• Experience of a range of post graduate paediatric experience working as a SLT with complex communication and language problems/Autism
• Experience of providing holistic care to children with highly complex mental health.
• Skilled in conducting and interpreting relevant Autism-specific assessment tools, e.g., ADOS-2, ADI-R
• Ability to practice independently within specialist clinical area.
• Articulate with good verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients in one to one or group settings.
• Skilled at interpreting complex assessment findings and using specialist SLT knowledge and skills to independently make clinical decisions and to formulate appropriate management and treatment plans, applying theory to practice and considering the holistic needs of the young person and their family.
• Knowledge of clinical governance and implementation of audits and ability to apply clinical governance principles to practice.
• Team building skills
• Knowledge and skills in multidisciplinary team working with complex clients
• Awareness and understanding of ethical issues that arise in this area of work.
• Ability to manage and have good insight into the personal emotional impact of working with unpredictable levels of high emotional distress and psychological trauma amongst the client group being served.
• Ability to maintain a calm and professional stance in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and potential threat of physical violence.
• Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures
• Ability to manage time effectively, managing a caseload and prioritising on a basis of need.
• IT skills, for recording work activity, for searching databases and the internet, for word processing and preparing presentations and for using email and intranet systems.
• Significant recent clinical experience including relevant training and experience within CAMHS and able to manage a caseload of patients with complex needs.
• Evidence of CPD in a range of clinical settings relevant to this post.
• Experience of leading projects in audit and/or research.
• Experience of working as an integral member of the MDT.
• Experience of organising and providing training for other health professionals
• Able to be flexible and adapt to the changing needs of the service
• Able to demonstrate leadership in specialist area.
• Able to deal with distressed patients, carers/families.
• Able to reflect and critically appraise own performance.
• Committed to client centred, non-discriminatory practice
• Able to travel to other locations in the Trust.
