Job summary
This is a Locum Consultant post (Maternity Cover - 9m). The remit of the postholder will be to work within the multi-disciplinary team providing and further developing care of Orthodontic patients (requiring highly specialized care), and to provide and develop Consultant Orthodontic services to Croydon Health Services patients. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the department while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff.

It is envisaged that the appointee will contribute to the development and delivery of inpatient, outpatient and emergency work.

Main duties of the job
The post will be based at Croydon University Hospital, Croydon Health Services NHS Trust and other work locations including off site working may be agreed in your Job Plan where appropriate. There will be an average of 3 Programmed Activities of Direct Clinical Care / 1 SPA

Please note that job plans are subject to review by your Clinical Head of Service and Clinical Director.

As a senior employee of the Trust you will work in close co-operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients. Integral to these responsibilities is the following:-
  • The provision of a first class clinical service
  • Effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
  • Sustaining and developing teaching and research in conjunction with Croydon Health Services
  • Undertaking all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies
  • Conducting clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's service plans
  • Maintaining the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Care Group or the Trust

Job responsibilities

Person Specification
Training and Experience
Essential
  • Experience in all areas of Orthodontics, diagnosis, treatment and provision of advice.

Desirable
  • Experience as Hospital Orthodontic Consultant

Administration
Essential
  • Experience in day to day organisation of services in a busy hospital setting
  • Able to demonstrate leadership capability within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Ability to organise and manage work
  • Understanding of the principles of clinical governance

Desirable
  • Experience in the development of clinical guidelines
  • Management course and/or qualification

Audit/Research and Publication
Essential
  • Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit. Must have undertaken and completed audit projects.

Desirable
  • Relevant research experience in one or more aspects of specialty specific topic
  • Experience of clinical research.

Qualifications
Essential
  • Morth or equivalent
  • CCST or within 3 months of CCST /Accreditation on Specialist Register at time of interview
  • FDSOrth
  • Full registration with the GDC

Desirable
  • Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
