Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and wear (CNTW) NHS Foundation TrustClinical Lead Occupational TherapistThe closing date is 19 July 2026Job summaryWe are looking for a clinical lead occupational therapist passionate about working with adults with learning disabilities to work alongside other qualified occupational therapists and assistant occupational therapists, within an experienced multi-disciplinary team. This post will be a clinical post working in the community directly with adults with learning disabilities, their families and carers. The role will involve working across clinical pathways of mental health and positive behavioural support and liaising with partner organisations. You will contribute to governance within the department, such as audits, and training that the department provides to colleagues. This post is a years fixed term contract covering maternity leave.
Main duties of the jobThis role will be in the community (either seeing clients at base, home visits or at other sites in the community) across Newcastle and Gateshead. Key roles will include consultation, assessment formulation and intervention (both direct and in-direct), functional skills, sensory assessment and contribute to wider clinical work within the team.
You will be part of a supportive and experienced team of clinicians, who work closely together. Your main responsibilities will be clinical, developing your therapeutic skills in working with adults with a learning disability, and offering consultation, supervision and training to colleagues. In addition there is a leadership role, supporting clinical caseloads across Newcastle and Gateshead.
Regular supervision from qualified clinicians will be provided, and there are good opportunities for further training within the Trust.

Person SpecificationKnowledge and ExperienceEssential- Proven track record of post registration clinical experience relevant to the post.
- Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, HCPC and RCOT standards and other local and national initiatives.
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience of providing Occupational Therapy services.
- Awareness of equal opportunities legislation and policies.
- Experience of collaborative working across agencies and professional disciplines.
Skills and CompetenciesEssential- Proven ability to carry out and provide comprehensive written assessments of individuals with complex needs.
- Risk Assessment and Risk Management / Safety Planning skills.
- Demonstrate an understanding of effective & appropriate treatment options including a range of evidence based clinical approaches as identified in N.I.C.E. Guidance).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Evidence of high level of professional organisational and leadership skills
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt within changing environment
Education and QualificationEssential- Recognised Occupational Therapy degree or equivalent
- HCPC registered
- Evidence of successful completion of specialist short courses and other relevant CPD to Masters level equivalence e.g.
- Post graduate level qualifications
- Field work educators qualification
Desirable- Registered member of Royal College of Occupational Therapists
