Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 5 nurse to join our Children's Community Learning Disability and Behaviour Support Service in North Cumbria. This nursing team offer a children's learning disability community nursing service along with an Early Intervention Service for Children with a Learning Disability and or Autism (age 2-11 years) who present with Behaviour which may challenge others.

The post holder will support children with a learning disability and or Autism and their families across the learning disability and CAMHS services. This may include proactive support for children with a learning disability and presenting mental health difficulties to prevent tier 3 services being required. They will be able to deliver a service which is high in quality, efficient and sustainable. The framework of Positive Behaviour Support will be applied by the post holder to support children and their families to increase quality of life outcomes and reduce behaviours which may challenge.

Main duties of the job

They will work within the framework of Positive Behaviour Support, to increase the quality of life for our children, young people and families. This may include include working across areas such as physical health promotion, sleep support, emotional wellbeing, skills development and capable environments.

They will have excellent communication skills and good interpersonal skills as the service works collaboratively with other health partners and the third sector to deliver the care to our families.

The successful candidate will facilitate various parent programmes alongside managing a caseload.

They will work autonomously in their day to day work with the support and guidance of the multi disciplinary team.

They will be able to demonstrate their personal alignment with the Trust Values.

The post holder will need to meet the mobility and geographical requirements of the post which require travel to community premises and across the sites as needed.

Education & Qualification

• First Level Registration RMN/RNMH/RNLD Qualification
• Experience of working with service users and carers in successful delivery of treatment plans
• Complete preceptorship programme for newly qualified nurses
• Multi-disciplinary team work.
• Proven ability to develop therapeutic partnership with service users and carers
• Proven ability to be able to communicate interventions to service users.

Desirable

• Further relevant post qualifying training
• Previous experience in a community setting.
• Experience of involving service users/ carers in evaluation/planning and monitoring of services
• Experience of working with children and young people

Knowledge and Experience

• Knowledge of relevant contemporary professional theories of mental health care/ learning disability care and evidence based interventions.
• Understanding of the statutory issues which impact on service users.

Skills and Competencies

• Ability to use IT system
• Comprehensive continuous assessment of skills
• Risk Assessment skills.
• Risk Management and Safety Planning skills.
• Adaptability, flexibility, good communication skills and a commitment to multi-agency team work
• Time Management skills and ability to prioritise work load
• Provide evidence based therapeutic interventions.
