Job summaryThis is a full time 10 PA Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Consultant post in CYPS to work with the Learning disability pathway, based in Monkwearmouth Hospital. It will provide an exciting opportunity to be involved in further developing the service model. There will also be opportunity to be involved in leadership, research, teaching, audit, and SPA activities. It is a rich service with strong established links with our Paediatric colleagues in the Acute Hospital; the generic CYPS team; the PLT (Psych liaison team); ICTS (Intensive community treatment service), EDICT (Eating disorders intensive community treatment team). We are a teaching service with plenty of teaching opportunities. We have Psychiatry trainees from FT, GP trainees, Core Trainees, Higher trainee and International fellowship doctors as well as undergraduate Medical students from Newcastle and Sunderland Medical Schools. The precise nature of the post will be discussed, jointly and mutually agreed with the candidate at the time of the appointment giving consideration to the service need, the candidate's interest and developmental needs.

Please note this vacancy will close once sufficient applications have been received.Main duties of the jobThe role of the CAMHS LD psychiatrist will be to undertake psychiatric assessments and contribute to the management of young people who have an established learning disability, and those who may have such a disability. The post holder will be working within a team of 4.4 WTE Consultant Child Psychiatrists in addition to this post is dedicated to LD CYPS, Core Trainees, Higher Trainees, GP Trainee and Foundation Trainee. The team also has 4 specialty doctors as well a rich MDT of Nurses, Psychologists. The post holder will work together with the wider multidisciplinary team to develop care plans and packages, and to deliver aspects of the care pathway, through the use of their expertise especially in psychopharmacology and other psychosocial interventions. The post holder will also undertake assessments of risk and make appropriate recommendations, working with the team and with the wider social care system to manage risk to the young person and to others. They will undertake this work within the clinical governance framework that exists within NTW. They will contribute to service management and development together with their line managers and co-workers. Job descriptionJob responsibilitiesThe clinical responsibilities of the job will include Psychiatric assessment and management of children and young people aged 0-18 presenting with Learning Disabilities and associated mental health problems and disorders referred to the service. They will participate in a daytime SoTyne CYPS on all rota 1:7 and the out of hours on call rota. The Job dedicated SPA time to supporting you in professional activities including continuous professional development, developing any academic interest and to partake in teaching, audit and research. Person SpecificationQualifications and TrainingEssential- MBBS (or equivalent)
- MRCPsych or equivalent qualification
- Included on GMC Specialist Register (General Psychiatry) or eligible for inclusion, or a trainee within six months of CCT
- Approved under Section12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
- Approved Clinician Status
Desirable- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant field
- Has undergone training in educational supervision
- Has undergone training in appraisal
KnowledgeEssential- Up to date knowledge in the field of Psychiatry
- Awareness of current issues and controversies in service provision, mental health policy and legislation
Desirable- An area of special interest relevant to the post as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies
ExperienceEssential- Experience of LD multidisciplinary team working
- Wide clinical experience in general CYPS psychiatry in different clinical settings
- Experience of Clinical Audit
Desirable- Experience in multiagency work especially with service user, carer and voluntary agencies
- Regularly take part in activities that maintain and develop the competence in LD CYPS' client group
- Experience in service management or development
