Job summary
The post is that of a Dental Nurse and the post holder will be expected to undertake duties in a busy Maxillofacial Department in two District General Hospitals.

They will carry out a range of assigned tasks involving direct and indirect care for the benefit of the patient/client in accordance with agreed protocols.

This post is fixed term/secondment for 36 months to cover a secondment. Anyone wishing to apply for the post as a secondment must seek approval from their Line Manager before applying.

Main duties of the job

• Provide high quality dental nurse care across a broad range of specialities.
• Participate in delivery of evidence based care and to ensure consistency and continuity in the quality of care.
• To provide a safe, welcoming and compassionate environment for patients and relatives.
• Deliver pre and post treatment instructions to patients and relatives/carers.
• Assist dental practitioners in undertaking four handed dentistry.
• To support the Senior Dental Nurse in the supervision of learners and newly appointed dental nurses.

Qualifications/Knowledge
Essential

• Registered Dental Nurse
• Evidence of continuous professional development

Desirable

• Certificate in Oral Health Education or willing to undertake. ILS

Experience
Essential

• Experience of working within the field of Restorative Dentistry and Orthodontics

Desirable

• Experience of working within the fields of Oral Surgery

Skills
Essential

• Effective communication both verbal and written Ability to prioritise work efficiently Ability to work in a demanding environment and adapt to change in working practices to meet the needs of the service
• Ability to work within a team.

Desirable

• Welsh language speaking/listening skills at Level 3 or above

Aptitude
Essential

• Enthusiastic. Good interpersonal skills Flexibility to meet service needs. Amenable to change as required. Ability to travel to all UHB sites
