Job summary
These are newly created Specialist Doctor posts developed as part of the Medical Workforce productivity programme.
Specialist doctors are senior and experienced clinicians who will work autonomously to a level of defined competencies, as agreed within local clinical governance frameworks. Specialists will be responsible for patients in their areas of practice as an 'expert decision maker'.
Specialist doctors provide expertise in a specialised area, whether delivering care in a specific specialty or in a generalist service and will manage the full range of presentations in their area of practice. The role will primarily focus on providing direct clinical care, meeting service delivery and improvement requirements. However, the role will be supported by suitable development opportunities including management roles and leadership responsibilities in, teaching, academia research and service development. The details of the balance between clinical care and other elements of the role would be discussed during the job planning process.
Specialist doctors are also expected to be involved in delivering teaching and training of others. They will be able to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, leading MDTs where appropriate.
Fixed term for up to 12 months to cover a Secondment

Welsh Desirable
This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. Whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn't 'fluency', just Speaking and Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means being able to communicate in Welsh during routine clinical situations, such as welcoming patients, discussing straightforward aspects of their care and answering routine questions. If you're comfortable holding everyday conversations in Welsh, we encourage you to apply. Your Welsh language skills will help us provide person-centred care and enable patients to receive services in their language of choice. Have a look at our 'Croeso Candidate' booklet for more information.
