Job summaryThe University of Bath Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) degree is one of the most highly regarded in the UK. In September 2024, the University of Bath launched delivery of its MPharm in Plymouth, in collaboration with the University of Plymouth with its first cohort of students.
We are seeking to recruit a Lecturer (teaching-focussed) in Pharmacy Practice to be a core member of the Plymouth-based MPharm teaching team. You will provide high quality teaching and assessment in the area of pharmacy practice in the MPharm degree course, contribute to the development and teaching of further taught courses (undergraduate and postgraduate) as appropriate, and undertake significant other roles within the department. This post will need to be able to cover a range of clinical topics and teach clinical and prescribing skills to undergraduates. You will be a passionate teacher and have a collegiate approach to working with both academic and professional services colleagues. You will be joining a small but dynamic group based in Plymouth and will be expected to collaborate with pharmacy colleagues based at the University of Bath.
The successful candidate would incorporate this role into their current post and their job description would be updated to reflect the requirements of the University elements (See University Job Description attached).Main duties of the jobThis post is to support the design and delivery of high quality teaching and assessment on the MPharm course at Plymouth, which is informed by pharmaceutical and pedagogical research and professional developments in pharmacy. Teaching activities may include lectures, workshops, practicals, and supervision of final year project students. Assessment activities may include summative marking of exams and coursework, formative assessments, e-portfolios and contribution to OSCE assessments.
You will also be expected to:- Contribute to the ongoing and periodic MPharm programme accreditation and evaluation activities.
- Contribute to the development of new taught courses (undergraduate and postgraduate) as appropriate.
- Provide pastoral care to MPharm students in line with departmental and university policy and to contribute positively to the student experience.
- Contribute effectively to University-wide developments and innovation in the design and delivery of teaching.
- Undertake significant other academic administrative roles within the department, at Plymouth and / or Bath, as agreed with the senior pharmacy staff.
- This role is teaching-focussed, with the potential for the appointee to develop in a range of directions, including undertaking research or professional outreach

QualificationsEssential- Registration as a pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and/or the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland (PSNI).
- Registration as an Independent Prescriber with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and/or the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland (PSNI).
- PhD degree in an area of direct relevance for the subject; OR
- Professional/Industrial/Creative Doctorate in an area of direct relevance for the subject (e.g. Pharm D, DHealth, EdD etc); OR
- Professional qualification and relevant experience equivalent to that of a PhD; OR
- Professional experience in relevant discipline equivalent to that of a PhD
- Experience of teaching at UG/PG level using a range of methods
- A creative vision for development, implementation and delivery of successful taught programmes and teaching innovations
Desirable- Demonstrable expertise in the development of taught programmes and teaching methods, including assessment
- Higher education teaching qualification or professional recognition (e.g. PGCert, FHEA or equivalent)
