Description

Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS FT
Advanced Practitioner
The closing date is 20 November 2026

Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 8a Advanced Practitioner to join our Emergency Surgical Service. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across Surgical Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) at Doncaster Royal Infirmary (DRI) and Bassetlaw Hospital (BDGH), as well as supporting the Emergency Department, elective service and outlying emergency surgical referrals within the hospital at BDGH.

Working as part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team, you will provide autonomous assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of patients presenting with acute surgical, urology, vascular and breast conditions, helping to ensure timely access to care and excellent patient outcomes.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an established Advanced Practitioner-led service and contribute to the ongoing development of emergency surgical care across both sites.

We welcome informal visits and would be delighted to show you around, introduce you to the team, and discuss the role further. Come and see the excellent service we provide for the people of South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw.

Main duties of the job
We are seeking an autonomous Advanced Practitioner whose practice is underpinned by the four pillars of Advanced Practice: clinical practice, leadership, education and research. You will have experience working in an acute setting, excellent clinical and leadership skills, and a commitment to ongoing professional development.

Working within the Emergency Surgical Service, you will provide advanced assessment, diagnosis and management of patients presenting with acute surgical conditions across Surgical SDEC, Emergency Department referrals, ward consultations and postoperative care. You will independently assess patients, request and interpret investigations, make complex clinical decisions, prescribe, initiate treatment plans and coordinate ongoing care.

Working autonomously within a Consultant-led multidisciplinary team, you will contribute to the delivery and development of high-quality surgical services across Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital. You will be supported by clinical and educational supervisors and provided with opportunities to maintain and develop your advanced practice skills and competencies.
