Job summary
Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit an additional full-time 12-month Locum Consultant in ENT. We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated, ambitious individual to join our team based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary working across all Trust sites.

The appointee will be an addition to the team of 6 full time, 3 part-time consultants and one Specialist surgeon at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. The service is provided across 3 sites, Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Montagu Hospital in Mexborough and Bassetlaw Hospital.

Main duties of the job
This post is to provide ENT services within Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Trust. A sub-specialty interest in Head & Neck, Thyroid, Parathyroid and salivary Surgery is desired. The appointee would be expected to take on lead roles within Head & Neck Surgery. This post will be based at Doncaster Royal Infirmary, but you may be required to perform out-patient clinics at Bassetlaw Hospital or Montagu Hospital. They will be expected to play an active part in the educational and training needs of junior doctors, medical students and nurses.

The service has an on-call rota (in conjunction with Rotherham General Hospital) for both junior (seven) and senior grade staff (four registrars and six speciality doctors), which is compliant with the European Working Time Directive. The Consultant on-call rota is shared with Rotherham and is currently 1 in 13 based at DRI. The on-call consultant provides cover to Doncaster Royal Infirmary, Bassetlaw and Rotherham accident and emergency departments and all inpatients are based at DRI. The consultant appointed, together with their colleagues, will share the responsibility for providing ENT services for the whole district. They will have a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and work closely with the consultant colleagues for the proper functioning of the department.

Essential
  • Applicants must continue to hold a Licence to Practise

Desirable
  • FRCS (Inter collegiate)
  • You must be on the specialist register for ENT or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of Doctors must be eligible to be on the GMC specialist register (evidence required prior to commencement) to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee
  • Relevant higher degree

Experience and Achievements
Essential
  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of ENT
  • Understanding current issues within ENT and the future direction of the specialty
  • Understanding current issues within the wider NHS
  • Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions

Desirable
  • Wide based experience in ENT
  • Attendance at a recognised management course

Teaching and training
Essential
  • Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and other healthcare professional.

Desirable
  • Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications
  • Training in clinical and educational supervision
  • Attendance at a teaching course
  • Formal qualification in teaching/education

Audit and Research
Essential
  • Knowledge of Audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects and the implementation of outcomes

Desirable
  • Evidence of knowledge of research methodology
  • Critical Appraisal Skills
