Safeguarding Practitioner

Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Safeguarding team as a Safeguarding Practitioner within the Trust. The focus on the work will be to provide Specialist advisory, supportive and educative services to colleagues across the Trust with a focus upon the think family approach to Safeguarding Children.

The post holder will contribute to the Safeguarding Children's work streams within the Trust and facilitate multi-professional / interagency working and training .

The post holder will work with the Named Midwife and Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children to ensure that there are robust internal policies and guidance in place, and will act as a focal point for the dissemination of information in relation to policy, procedures and training. They will assist the Named Midwife and Named Nurse for Children to develop professional safeguarding standards and promote best practice. They will be accessible and visible across Trust areas and support colleagues with accurate and relevant information to enhance safeguarding knowledge and support risk escalation.

They will act as a point of contact in order to provide advice and specialist knowledge for Trust colleagues and be the wider link for partners across the multi-agency network.

• To provide specialist advice and support on Safeguarding Children matters for all colleagues across the Trust.
• To develop, maintain and evaluate a training programmes
• To support colleagues managing complex safeguarding situations to enhance their development, competence and confidence in the management of Safeguarding children cases.
• They will also provide operational support to the Domestic Abuse agenda and support line management of the Domestic Abuse liaison officers as delegated by the Head of Safeguarding.
• To access legal advice when appropriate and ensure all case escalation are shared and discussed with the Named Midwife or Named Nurse.
• Undertake regular audit activity as directed.
• Participate in committees, forums and meetings as identified by the Named Midwife or Named Nurse for Safeguarding Children.

Essential

• Relevant post registration experience at Band 5 or above
• Knowledge of Safeguarding underpinned by theory and experience
• Experience of multi professional and multi-agency working
• Experience of teaching
• Knowledge of local and National policy
• Knowledge of Domestic Abuse

Desirable

• Research and development activity
• Audit
• Experience of delivering safeguarding children supervision.
• Working with pregnant people

Qualification & Training
Essential

• Registered Professional with current NMC registration and safeguarding experience.
• Equivalent study related to safeguarding role
• Up to date knowledge of professional issues
• IT literate

• Demonstrate professional development post registration
• Degree / Teaching Qualification / course
• Supervision Qualification / training
