Job summary
As a Specialist Occupational Therapist, you will be an integral member of our multidisciplinary team, providing specialist occupational therapy support for patients with complex palliative care needs.

Main duties of the job
You will work across hospice and community services to provide specialist occupational therapy assessments, goal-focused interventions and practical support. You'll work alongside nurses, physiotherapists, doctors, counsellors and other allied health professionals, helping to shape innovative palliative care services while championing a holistic rehabilitative approach.

Job responsibilities
SPECIALIST OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST - PALLIATIVE CARE | Band 6 | £20.44 - £24.61 per hour
Contract: Fixed Term of 6 months with the possibility of extension.
Part Time - 15 hours per week (ideally the middle / end of the week).
Location: Winsley, Wiltshire - working across our community (occasional remote working agreed)

WHAT WILL THE ROLE INVOLVE?
As a Specialist Occupational Therapist, you will be an integral member of our multidisciplinary team, providing specialist occupational therapy support for patients with complex palliative care needs. Your responsibilities will include:
  • Providing specialist occupational therapy assessments, interventions and care planning for patients, families and carers
  • Championing the rehabilitative palliative care approach to help people maintain independence and achieve personalised goals
  • Managing a complex caseload and working collaboratively with colleagues across health, social care and voluntary sector services
  • Providing clinical advice and guidance to colleagues supporting patients with specialist palliative care needs
  • Supporting and supervising students, volunteers and Clinical Support Assistants where appropriate
  • Contributing to service development, quality improvement, audit and research activities
  • Delivering education, training and group-based interventions for patients, carers and professionals
  • Building strong relationships with community partners and multidisciplinary colleagues across the wider health system

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • Degree qualification in Occupational Therapy and HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist

Experience
Essential
  • A demonstrable interest in palliative care and understanding of rehabilitative palliative care
  • Post-graduate experience working with relevant client groups
  • Experience assessing complex physical conditions, setting goals and developing treatment plans
  • Evidence of working as an autonomous practitioner
  • Experience working effectively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrates an extended scope of practice or shows willingness to develop through further training

Desirable
  • Experience supervising staff, students or volunteers
  • Experience delivering education and training
  • Experience working with community partners and external organisations
