The consultants provide a minimum of 12 hours shop floor cover daily and a 24 hour on call and trauma and stroke thrombolysis cover 7 days a week. There are also 18 resident doctors, and a well established majors nurse practitioner service within the department. The hospital, opened in 1997, provides an excellent environment for patients and staff. The department sees over 43,000 patients annually with the activity increasing during the summer holiday season. There is excellent support from the other hospital specialties including anaesthetics, paediatrics, radiology, primary PCI in hours and 24/7 Stroke Thrombolysis.
