Job SummaryThe post is full time and the post holder will be expected to participate in the general surgical registrar rota. The successful candidate will be working within the Colorectal Surgery team at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust and will provide an opportunity to gain exposure and training in minimal access (robotic and laparoscopic) colorectal surgery.
The Colorectal department includes 4 robotically trained Consultants, and all 5 colorectal surgeons routinely perform laparoscopic surgery for benign and malignant colorectal disease. Minimal access techniques are also utilised by most surgeons for abdominal wall hernias and cholecystectomies. The Trust has two da Vinci Xi Dual Console robots and a CMR robot. During the post, it is envisaged that the successful candidate will gain skills in a whole breadth of minimal access (robotic and laparoscopic) colorectal procedures, including rectal and colonic resections for benign and malignant disease, utilising techniques such as intracorporeal colonic anastomosis and Transanal Minimal Access Surgery (TAMIS).
Main Duties of the Job- o Initial resuscitation and management of all emergency patients presenting to the department
- o Initiation of the necessary investigation of patients and the referral to the relevant on-call specialist team when indicated

Person SpecificationQualifications / TrainingEssential- Hold a current licence to practice from the General Medical Council
- MBChB (or equivalent) qualification
Desirable- FRCS (or equivalent) qualification
Previous ExperienceEssential- Experience at SpR / ST3 and above
- Good range of experience in General Surgery
- Experience in Colorectal Surgery
- Evidence of lower gastrointestinal endoscopy practice
