East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced
Consultant Neurophysiologist to join our expanding Neurosciences team. This is a substantive, full-time post based at
Kent & Canterbury Hospital, with cross-site responsibilities as required. Salary:
£113,565 - £150,569 per annum.
You will play a key role in delivering high-quality neurophysiology services, supporting diagnosis and management of neurological disorders across the Trust. This is an exciting opportunity to work in one of the largest Neuroscience centres outside London, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for EEG, EMG, nerve conduction studies, and video telemetry.
Main duties of the job
- Provide specialist neurophysiology services including EEG, EMG, and nerve conduction studies for adult and paediatric patients.
- Interpret and report neurophysiological investigations accurately and promptly.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and case discussions.
- Contribute to clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Support teaching and training of medical students, trainees, and clinical scientists.
- Engage in continuing professional development and maintain GMC revalidation requirements.
Job plan:
10 PAs per week (8 DCC, 1-2 SPA). Outpatient neurophysiology clinics and diagnostic reporting sessions (approx. up to 6 per week). No on-call commitment.

Job responsibilities
The successful candidate will join a dynamic team comprising 11 Consultant Neurologists, 1 existing Consultant Neurophysiologist, specialist grade doctors, trainees, and clinical neurophysiology technicians. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality diagnostic services, including EEG (routine and prolonged), EMG, and nerve conduction studies, with annual volumes of approximately 1,200-1,500 EEGs and 800-1,000 EMG/NCS studies.
Essential Requirements:
- GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Inclusion on the Specialist Register in Clinical Neurophysiology (or within 6 months of CCT at interview)
- Proven experience in EEG, EMG, and nerve conduction studies
Desirable:
- Higher degree (MD, PhD or equivalent)
- Experience in paediatric neurophysiology
- Evidence of research and publications

Essential
