An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team within iCaSH Bedfordshire working across both sites at Bedford Kingsbrook and Grove View in Dunstable. You will be working within our multi-disciplinary team including clinical and outreach teams.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, enjoys providing excellent care and ensure patients are always put first. We want someone who wants to learn and develop.

Good time management skills and the ability to thrive in a busy environment are key. Excellent written & verbal communication abilities are a must. You will also maintain privacy, confidentiality, dignity, and ensure the patient is well looked after.

The post holder will support the delivery of healthcare for patients attending the integrated contraception and sexual health (iCaSH) service which is part of East of England Community Health and Care NHS Trust (EEC). This may include the supporting of patients who present with sexually transmitted infections, HIV/AIDS, contraception requirements and/or any other sexual health related problems.

Working Pattern: 22.5 hours per week, Wednesday 12-8pm, Thursday 9-5pm and Friday 9-5pm. Saturday on rotation 0900-1300 with half day off in that week to work across Bedford and Grove view site. Must be willing to travel.

Main duties of the job

• To welcome patients and obtain relevant personal and clinical details as appropriate treating all such information as confidential.
• Following training, and once signed off as competent, to act as a chaperone and assist nurses/doctors to undertake intimate examinations/procedures and or sexual health screening on patients.
• To provide information to patients as appropriate who attend the department and to those who are diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection/HIV or require contraception advice, risk reduction advice and condom demonstration.
• Following training, provide a phlebotomy service for patients attending the services.To participate in outreach and support health promotion events when requested.
• To be non-judgemental to all client groups regardless of age/ethnicity/religion.
• To undertake non-clinical duties in support of the admin team, for example undertake call taking and reception cover including 0300 number answering, registering patients and booking, support data collection and or general patient and non-patient administration.
• Following training, undertake, read and interpret microscopy slides as directed by clinicians and appropriately document and communicate the associated findings, if required by the clinical service.
• Hold the Care Certificate and deliver the associated standards of care or undertake the training at the earliest opportunity upon recruitment to post.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
Essential

• Evidence of good standard of general education including basic literacy and numeracy skills.
• Care Certificate or willingness to undertake at the earliest opportunity upon recruitment to post.

Desirable

• Level 2 or 3 qualification in Health & Social Care or equivalent.
• Sexually Transmitted Infection Foundation (STIF) course - Core.

Experience
Essential

• Experience of working in a health care environment.
• Experience of working with the public.

Desirable

• Recent experience of working in a sexual and reproductive health service or equivalent
• Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Knowledge and Skills
Essential

• Able to perform the full range of duties the role requires and dexterity to perform clinical duties.
• Competent in phlebotomy/venepuncture or willingness to train.
• Ability to work under pressure.

Desirable

• Experience of reading and interpreting microscopy slides, and ability to appropriately document associated findings.
