Senior Algorithm Engineer

What You’ll Do At Elekta
As a Senior Algorithm Engineer, you will help advance oncology imaging and treatment solutions by solving complex medical imaging challenges and translating research into product-ready innovations. Working with research scientists, software engineers and cross-functional stakeholders, you will apply expertise in medical imaging, machine learning and high-performance software development across areas such as image registration, image segmentation, motion tracking and image-based informatics. Your work will support Elekta’s product roadmap and contribute to more precise and personalized cancer care.

Responsibilities

• Develop algorithms and software solutions for complex medical imaging challenges in oncology, including registration, segmentation, motion tracking and image-based informatics.
• Design, build and evaluate research prototypes that can be translated into Elekta products and clinical workflows.
• Apply machine learning, deep learning, statistical methods and numerical optimization to 2D, 3D and 4D imaging problems.
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers and product stakeholders to define technical approaches, specifications and designs that support Elekta’s roadmap.
• Develop high-performance software in Python, C++, CUDA or other relevant technologies using appropriate development processes and methodologies.
• Partner with external research institutions, healthcare organizations and technology partners on evaluations and co-development activities, when required.
• Contribute to testing, validation, technical documentation, white papers and presentations for internal and external audiences.
• Stay current with scientific and technology developments, share expertise across Elekta and contribute to publications, intellectual property and patent activities where appropriate.

What You’ll Bring

• Advanced knowledge of medical imaging, machine learning and/or computer vision, ideally applied to healthcare, oncology or another regulated environment.
• Strong programming skills, including development experience with Python and C++ using Visual Studio.
• Proficient with common scientific computing libraries such as ITK, VTK, NumPy, Scikit-Learn and Matplotlib, and deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch and/or TensorFlow.
• Experienced in developing GPU based image processing algorithms and applications using CUDA. Practical knowledge of rigid and deformable image registration, image segmentation, motion tracking, statistical modelling, numerical optimization, and matrix and tensor algebra.
• Ability to solve complex technical problems independently, collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary teams and communicate scientific concepts clearly in writing and presentations.
• Experience developing imaging applications, plus either a PhD in Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Medical Physics or a related discipline with at least 5 years of relevant software development and/or research experience, or a Master’s degree in a related discipline with at least 10 years of relevant experience.

Additional Experience That May Be Helpful
Experience with C#, .NET, OpenMP, OpenCL, and DICOM, as well as patent authorship or other intellectual property activities, may be beneficial.
