Introduction
Are you a Consultant Psychiatrist looking for an opportunity to work within a highly specialised and innovative service supporting individuals with complex mental health needs. Join Barnet Lane Clinic as a Consultant Psychiatrist and work in a Complex Recovery Service (CRS), a unique inpatient service dedicated to supporting people whose needs have not been met by conventional inpatient, secure, or community services.

This 0.6 WTE role offers the opportunity to work alongside an experienced and supportive consultant medical team, including the Medical Director, Associate Specialist, Physical Healthcare Nurse, and a well-resourced multidisciplinary team. There is flexibility to increase hours by agreement, and we welcome applications from psychiatrists with interests in areas such as autism, forensic psychiatry, trauma, complexity, rehabilitation, or psychodynamic psychotherapy.

As Consultant Psychiatrist, you will provide clinical leadership for a small caseload of patients, undertaking diagnostic assessments, medication management, and Responsible Clinician duties under the Mental Health Act where required. You will contribute to the development of shared psychological formulations, helping to create a holistic understanding of each individual's needs and supporting personalised recovery-focused treatment plans.

Working closely with psychology, occupational therapy, nursing, and wider multidisciplinary colleagues, you will play a key role in delivering the service's phased treatment model across stabilisation, active treatment, and reintegration. You will contribute to multidisciplinary reviews, CPA and CTR processes, clinical huddles, reflective practice sessions, and complex case discussions, ensuring high-quality care and positive patient outcomes.

You will also support the service's commitment to reducing restrictive practices, engage with families, carers, commissioners, and external stakeholders, and contribute to clinical governance, safeguarding, quality improvement, and service development initiatives. The role offers the chance to help shape the future growth of the Complex Recovery Service and contribute to the development of Elysium's Centre of Excellence

Key responsibilities:

• Provide consultant psychiatric leadership for a small caseload of 3 to 4 patients within the CRS, including diagnostic assessment, medication management and Mental Health Act responsibilities as the responsible clinician where allocated.
• Contribute to and take ownership of the single shared narrative formulation for patients under your care, integrating multiple aspects of diagnostic contributions to the presentation.
• Lead or contribute to the phased treatment model across stabilisation, active treatment and reintegration, working closely with psychology, occupational therapy and nursing colleagues.
• Chair or contribute to weekly multidisciplinary reviews, CPA and CTR processes, and daily clinical huddles, reflective practice and complex case panels.
• Support the reduction of restrictive practice in line with the Positive and Proactive Care framework.
• Engage regularly with families, carers and with external commissioners, quality networks and complex case panels, as part of the service's external accountability structure.
• Contribute to clinical governance, incident review, safeguarding processes and reflective practice.
• Support the monitoring of validated clinical outcome measures (including CGI, ReQoL, CollaboRATE and MoHOST) and the service's progress toward dual AIMS-Rehab and QNWA accreditation.
• Provide clinical supervision and contribute to the training and development of the wider multidisciplinary team.
• Contribute clinical and strategic input to future service development, including potential expansion of the Centre of Excellence and additional CRS sites.
• The Consultant will be required to participate in a 1:8 (1:5 FTE) non-resident second on-call rota. First on-call medical cover is provided at all sites.

To be successful in this role, you will need:
Essential:

• Full registration with the General Medical Council, with a licence to practise
• Entry on the GMC Specialist Register.
• Approved clinician status, or eligibility to obtain this within an agreed timeframe.
• Section 12(2) approval.
• Experience working within a multidisciplinary team, including engagement with families, carers and external agencies.

Desirable:

• Subspecialty training or significant clinical experience in one or more of: autism, forensic psychiatry, trauma, complex presentations, rehabilitation psychiatry or psychodynamic psychotherapy
• Experience of working with coexisting autism and emotionally unstable personality disorder
• Experience of reducing restrictive practice within an inpatient setting
• Experience of quality network accreditation processes such as AIMS-Rehab or QNWA
• Experience of clinical audit, service evaluation or quality improvement
• Interest in contributing to service design and development as the Centre of Excellence grows
