Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist - Respiratory Services

Join our award-winning Respiratory Services and find your passion in delivering high-quality, evidence-based care. We are seeking an enthusiastic, passionate and knowledgeable Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist committed to excellence in respiratory care.

As a key member of the senior team, you will lead and develop a multidisciplinary workforce--including nurses, physiotherapists, nursing associates, associate practitioners, physio technicians and administrative staff--to deliver outstanding care for people with respiratory illness in their preferred setting.

Based at Farnham Community Hospital, our team covers NE Hampshire, Farnham and Surrey Heath, caring for patients in hospital, clinics and their own homes. You will play a vital role in improving standards of respiratory care and enjoy a varied role where no two days are the same.

The post requires flexibility to work across designated sites within the ICB, spanning both community and secondary care. Core hours are Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, this will develop into a 7-day service, which may involve weekend rotations and occasional unsociable hours.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will provide specialist respiratory intervention, as well as support the multidisciplinary team in assessing and developing a holistic management plan.

You will be expected to perform assessment of respiratory patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, developing and delivering an individualised physiotherapy treatment programme based on this.

You will understand the assessment and management of multiple respiratory conditions and be aware of local and national guidelines for COPD, Bronchiectasis, Interstitial Lung Disease, Asthma and Oxygen.

Skills and Knowledge
Essential

• Demonstrates understanding of relevant national strategy / policy and how this relates to the service
• Demonstrates up to date knowledge and expertise in general nursing. Knowledge of key professional issues and NMC guidelines and codes, relating to professional practice
• Evidence of ability to work collaboratively
• Advanced clinical assessment skills
• Ability to initiate, sustain and evaluate change
• Demonstrates skilled written and verbal communication skills

Desirable

• ABG interpretation

Qualifications
Essential

• Registered Nurse - Part 1,2,12
• Teaching / assessment programme
• Relevant specialist post basic programme in respiratory care and management
• First degree in nursing, or demonstrable experience at this level

Desirable

• Completed / completing a masters degree
• Non-Medical prescribing

Experience
Essential

• Significant relevant clinical experience (postgraduate) in the same or related specialty
• Some recent clinical experience in the acute or respiratory setting
• Experience in managing the acutely unwell respiratory patient in the hospital setting.
• Experience in acting as a clinical supervisor and mentor to others

Desirable

• Experience of applying research evidence to clinical practice
• Previous community nursing experience

Special Requirements
Essential

• Full driving licence and access to a car for use to travel across sites and perform domiciliary visits
• Willing and able to work weekends and unsocial hours
