Job summary
We are looking for a committed and skilled Specialist Clinical Fellow in Dermatology to join our dynamic team.

In this role, you will contribute to delivering high-quality patient care, working closely with consultants, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to diagnose and manage a wide range of skin conditions, ensuring the best possible outcomes for patients.

This post has been created to enhance the care of dermatology patients on the general medical/surgical wards and clinic environments, assisting the consultant team and specialist nurses to provide service that meets the needs of the patients they are referred

Main duties of the job

• Diagnose skin disorders through clinical exams and tests
• Develop and adjust personalized treatment plans
• Provide cover for colleagues and support service improvements
• Attend MDT meetings as required
• Assist the Consultant team with ward referrals within Frimley Park Hospital
• Provide assistance to the Consultant team with the follow up of their outpatients, and as part of training, see new patients
• Assist the dermatology team with clinical audit and research
• Participate in departmental meetings, governance, and continuous professional development

The duties outlined are not exhaustive and may be subject to change in line with the needs of the service.

Multidisciplinary team working is a key component of practice within the Trust and will include participation in MDT discussions with colleagues.

The post holder will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients under their supervision, including all associated administrative duties.

Job Plan

1 FTE (Full time Equivalent).

Activity that can be covered, with appropriate administrative time allocated. Working days will be agreed with the Service Manager in line with service needs.

• Skin MDT
• Ward referrals
• TWR Clinics
• Paediatrics Clinics
• General Clinics
• Biologic Clinics

The post holder will do 3-4 clinics per week under supervision. They will discuss patients seen in clinic with the supervising consultant.

There is a rota for ward referrals but no out of hours on-call is required in this post.

Supervising Consultants will be Dr Antony, Dr Gossain, Dr Lee and Dr Sherif.

Qualifications
Essential

• MBBS or equivalent
• Full GMC Registration with licence to practice to cover the scope of employment
• Understands the principles of patient confidentiality and data protection

Desirable

• Other higher degree or diploma

Experience
Essential

• Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in the specialty
• Comprehensive knowledge in the specialty and ability to offer expert clinical opinion on range of problems
• Demonstrates good knowledge of the structures and culture of the NHS, roles, responsibilities and relationships across the MDT and the multi-professional team
• Able to prioritise clinical need
• Aware of own limitations, and knows when to ask for help
• Able to write legible records and to discuss treatment options with patients in a way they can understand
• Able to communicate clearly in written and spoken English e.g.
• Able to establish good working relations with patients, carers and multi-disciplinary colleagues
• Able to contribute to teaching and learning of others in the clinical setting
• Understands the role of audit in clinical practice
• Ensures patients are not put at risk
• Understanding of the basic principles of research

Desirable

• Computer literate
• Understands the importance and impact of information systems in health care.
• Has participated in clinical audit
• Experience of collecting, analysing and presenting data orally and in writing
• Interest/has participated in (clinical/laboratory) research
