Job summary
Clinical Psychologist in Brain Injury, Band 7 (22.5 hours a week)

This position would suit someone looking to further/develop their skills in neuro-rehabilitation.

The post involves providing an outpatient service to patients with acquired brain injury, including cognitive assessment/rehabilitation and therapeutic input. The work is varied with regular opportunities for joint working and would suit someone who enjoys working closely with a team.

The team includes two Clinical Psychologists; specialist neuropsychology supervision is available.

The post-holder will be part of a supportive multi-disciplinary team in which psychology is well-established. The post-holder will also be part of a large and friendly Clinical Health Psychology Department. The post would be ideally suited to someone looking to develop their career in the health psychology/neurological rehabilitation field. We welcome applications from newly qualified psychologists, as well as those looking to change their area of specialism.We can offer you a varied and interesting post with regular peer support

Main duties of the job
The post involves:
  • Undertaking specialist neuropsychological assessments to inform rehabilitation
  • Psychological assessment and interventions to support mood and adjustment
  • Adapting clinical and therapeutic approaches to accommodate cognitive changes as a result of brain injury
  • Linking-in and working alongside other providers such as charitable agencies, care and educational staff and other health services and staff
  • Providing indirect clinical interventions including training and consultation
  • Using knowledge and skills to identify and implement audit, research and service development work as the opportunities arise
  • Being involved in the continued professional development and supervision of roles such as Assistant Psychologists and placement students

The post holder will be part of a team of 10 other psychologists delivering a service to neurological rehabilitation in GHNHSFT, a team known for excellent peer support.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • Post-graduate degree in clinical psychology
  • Eligible for membership of the BPS Division of Clinical Psychology and for BPS chartered status
  • HCPC Registration

Experience
Essential
  • Experience with a variety of clinical assessments and interventions
  • Experience of neuropsychological assessment and interpretation
  • Experience of MDT working

Desirable
  • Experience of working in a Brain Injury or Stroke setting

Knowledge and skills
Essential
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal and written
  • Demonstrate ability to work autonomously
  • Ability to formulate and work therapeutically with complex patients using a variety of therapeutic approaches
