The role aims to promote inclusion, health and wellbeing, recognising their importance in supporting individual resilience, enhancing colleagues' capacity to provide support, and ultimately improving patient care. The IET will champion the experiences of these trainee groups, facilitate the sharing of good practice across the Trust, support understanding and feedback on relevant policies and procedures, and help improve the visibility, representation and overall educational experience of underrepresented trainees within the organisation.
Main duties of the jobThis role provides visible, accessible support for International Medical Graduates (IMGs), Locally Employed Doctors (LEDs) and underrepresented trainees across GHNHSFT, promoting inclusion, wellbeing and educational excellence. Working closely with the Director and Associate Directors of Medical Education, the post acts as a key advocate and point of contact, helping to strengthen links with NHS education partners, support recruitment and retention, and evaluate and improve the experience of these groups through feedback, evidence and best practice.
The post leads the development and coordination of tailored induction, mentoring and support programmes, including Welcome to UK Practice, GMC Overseas Doctors Induction and cultural orientation initiatives. Responsibilities include facilitating IMG, LED and trainee forums, collaborating with supervisors and Trust teams, supporting wellbeing and career development, and monitoring themes such as bullying and harassment. The role works with a wide range of stakeholders across the Trust and externally, represents the organisation at relevant networks and meetings, and requires ongoing professional development, including NACT training and GMC-accredited Educational Supervisor status.

Job responsibilitiesThis role is focused on providing dedicated support and advocacy for International Medical Graduates (IMGs), Locally Employed Doctors (LEDs), and underrepresented trainees within Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHNHSFT). Working closely with the Director and Associate Directors of Medical Education, the postholder will help enhance the educational, professional, and pastoral experience of these doctors. Key responsibilities include leading bespoke induction programmes throughout the year, covering areas such as UK medical practice, GMC standards, cultural awareness, and workplace integration.
The role also aims to establish and coordinate support networks, mentorship opportunities, and forums that encourage engagement, inclusion, and career development. By working with educational supervisors and external bodies such as NHS England, the postholder will support quality assurance processes and promote the Trust as a diverse and inclusive employer committed to the success of all doctors.
A significant aspect of the role involves building strong relationships and acting as a visible point of contact for doctors requiring guidance and support. The postholder will collaborate closely with Medical Education teams, Medical Workforce, Health and Wellbeing services, Freedom to Speak Up Guardians, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion teams, and clinical leaders across the Trust.
Responsibilities include signposting individuals to appropriate services, supporting those experiencing challenges related to wellbeing, bullying, harassment, or workplace concerns, and ensuring that trainees are aware of available resources. The role also requires gathering and analysing information on the health, wellbeing, and career support provided to IMGs, LEDs, and underrepresented trainees, identifying trends and areas for improvement. Sharing best practice both within the Trust and through professional networks with similar tutors across the NHS is also a key expectation.
The postholder will act as a change agent, promoting evidence-based approaches to inclusion, support, and educational development. Attendance at Medical Education Board meetings and national forums will help ensure that good practice is shared while identifying specialties or departments requiring additional support. The role includes leading enhanced mentorship programmes, contributing to educational faculty development, and providing updates to senior educational leaders. Continuous professional development is essential, with requirements to complete National Association of Clinical Tutors (NACT) training, become a member of the organisation, and undertake programmes leading to GMC Accredited Educational Supervisor status.
Through these activities, the postholder will contribute to creating a positive, supportive, and inclusive training environment that improves the experience, wellbeing, and career progression of IMGs, LEDs, and underrepresented trainees across the Trust.
