Job summary
We are looking for someone who will share our commitment to providing excellent healthcare and will liaise with the partners where appropriate to ensure continuity of care. The candidate must be fully registered with the General Medical Council, have suitable medical indemnity insurance, and be listed on the performers list for general medical services.

To provide high-quality, patient-centred primary care services while contributing to the leadership, strategic development, and sustainability of the practice. The Salaried GP Partner will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, effective, and accessible healthcare, whilst actively supporting the achievement of practice objectives and service improvements.

Main duties of the job
The successful candidate would be looking for 4 sessions (Mondays/ Fridays) excellent rate of pay per session per year. Annual leave entitlement is 7 weeks (pro rata). There will be share of on call which is based on triage and review patient who needs to be seen and the day is split in half day cover only.

The post-holder will work as part of a team, dealing with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered patients.

In accordance with the Practice timetable, the post-holder will undertake a variety of duties including:
  • Surgery consultations,
  • Telephone consultations,
  • Occasional home visits (low requirements as normally undertaken by Cluster Paramedic)
  • Checking and signing repeat prescriptions,
  • Reviewing results and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
  • Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.

Fairfield Surgery is an 7,900 patient GMS practice based in the Port Talbot Resource Centre with a friendly administrative team. There are 3 GP Partners with a clinical team of Practice Pharmacist, Practice Paramedic, Practice Nurses and a Health Care Worker. Supported by a community team of District Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors.

Job responsibilities

Clinical Duties
  • Provide comprehensive medical services to registered patients in accordance with GMC standards and NHS Wales requirements.
  • Undertake face-to-face, telephone, and video consultations as appropriate.
  • Diagnose and manage acute and chronic medical conditions.
  • Prescribe medications safely and cost-effectively.
  • Conduct home visits where clinically appropriate.
  • Manage clinical correspondence, pathology results, and hospital communications.
  • Maintain accurate and contemporaneous clinical records.
  • Participate in safeguarding processes for children and vulnerable adults.
  • Support preventive healthcare and health promotion initiatives.

Leadership and Partnership Responsibilities
  • Contribute to strategic planning and future development of the practice.
  • Work with partners and management to identify opportunities for innovation and growth.
  • Promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive working environment.

Multidisciplinary Team Working
  • Collaborate effectively with nurses, healthcare support workers, and administrative staff.
  • Support integrated working with community and secondary care services.
  • Provide clinical advice and mentorship to colleagues where appropriate.
  • Participate in practice meetings and clinical discussions.

Quality Improvement and Governance
  • Participate in clinical audit, quality improvement projects, and significant event reviews.
  • Support compliance with practice policies, governance frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of current clinical guidelines and best practice.

Administrative Responsibilities
  • Complete clinical documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Process referrals within agreed timescales.
  • Sign prescriptions within agreed timescales, both manual and EPS
  • Manage test results and action accordingly
  • Manage clinical workflow and action tasks effectively.

Professional Development
  • Maintain GMC registration, licence to practise, and appraisal requirements.
  • Participate in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Keep knowledge and skills up to date with current evidence-based practice.
  • Engage in mandatory training and revalidation requirements.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • MBBS, MBChB or equivalent recognised medical qualification.
  • Full GMC registration with licence to practise.
  • MRCGP or equivalent qualification.
  • Inclusion on the Wales Performers List or eligibility for inclusion.

Desirable
  • Special Interests welcomed

Experience
Essential
  • Experience working in General Practice.
  • Excellent clinical assessment and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team working.
  • Understanding of NHS primary care systems and processes.
