Job summary
The position is a temporary position to cover maternity leave. This is a fixed term contract and the start for this position is 1st December 2026 and will finish 30th November 2027.

We are looking to appoint a GP with special interest to provide medical monitoring and management to patients who are under the care of the Eating Disorders Service.

You will provide assessment and management of patients who are at risk of or who have developed medical complications of their eating disorder.

You will also be involved in assessment and management of comorbidities which impact upon the patient's eating disorder, including liaison with other professionals.

Main duties of the job

• Supporting the MDT to triage patients
• Assessment and management of patients who are at high risk of medical complications of their eating disorder or who have already developed complications of their eating disorder.
• Assessment and management of patients with medical and psychiatric comorbidities which impact upon their eating disorder.
• Assessment of patients with an eating disorder who are pregnant, with appropriate liaison with obstetrics, midwifery and perinatal mental health services.
• Assessment of psychiatric risk and using the Medical Emergencies in Eating Disorders guidance to guide clinical decision making.
• Supporting the wider MDT to triage patients who have been referred to the service, including reviewing the results of medical investigations arranged by the referrer and advising on the frequency of health checks.
• Reviewing and actioning the results of medical investigations arranged by the eating disorder service.
• Clinical supervision of nursing staff working within the physical health team. This will include cross cover arrangements with the Manchester Eating Disorder service.
• Discussing patients with other members of the multidisciplinary team
• To provide clinical advice and liaison as required to colleagues in primary care, community services and acute specialties.
• Contributing to weekly team meetings

Person Specification
Requirement, Qualification and Training.
Essential

• oMedical degree (MBBS or MBChB) oInclusion on the GMC Register and GP Performers List oMembership of the Royal College of General Practitioners or equivalent. oEvidence of engagement with annual appraisal

• Qualification in the field of mental health or other relevant specialism.

Experience

• Any other relevant experience e.g. psychological therapies. Experience working as a qualified general practitioner. Knowledge of UK hospital systems.
