We are seeking applications from confident, enthusiastic, & experienced social workers who are passionate about working in a perinatal service.
The perinatal period includes from conception up until one year following the birth of the baby & is a critical time for prevention & treatment for women at risk of serious mental ill health. providing a unique opportunity for intervention & change, improving outcomes for mums, their families and ultimately society, in the longer term.
The post holder will be involved in carrying a small caseload of complex cases. Preparing and delivering perinatal Mental health training, providing clinical supervision, consultation, & specialist advice on mental health issues in women of childbearing age, to a range of professionals who work closely with this group of women. They will have a strong working knowledge of adult & child safeguarding and will support the cluster teams to ensure all safeguarding needs are being addressed.
The post holder will aim at all times to promote the independence of women and people who are pregnant or in the post-natal period experiencing mental health difficulties & assist social inclusion and valued community presence & to enable the widest possible expression of chosen lifestyle.
Main duties of the jobRecruitment to this permanent Senior Social Work position will be part of the development of Specialist Perinatal Services across Greater Manchester. Although the role and responsibilities have been outlined within this job description, it is important that the new post holder is flexible, innovative and had a positive attitude to change as the service develops.
The service aims to provide an easy access user-friendly service. The successful candidate will take a leadership role in the further developments, and maintenance of service across their designated cluster.
The post holder will be expected to participate in Bronze on call rota, which will also include weekend working based at a designated site.
The post holder will act as a case worker for a small number of highly complex case and will also act as a social work consultant for team managers and care coordinators on other highly complex cases as required.
The post holder will report to and receive Professional social work supervision fromthe Perinatal Lead Social Worker.
The post-holder will be required to provide social work support, training, and mentorship to newly qualified social workers and health colleagues within the Trust.

Person SpecificationQualifications / EducationEssential- Relevant professional qualification, Dip SW, BA Social Work, CQSW.
- Registered with the Social Work England
- Minimum 2 years post qualified experience working as a social worker within Children Services or Mental Health Services
Desirable- Master's degree or equivalent experience.
- Recent experience of perinatal mental health practice and/or safeguarding children practice
ExperienceEssential- Experience of conducting assessments and supporting service users with highly complex needs
- Experience of coordinating multi-disciplinary assessments including capacity assessments.
- Knowledge and experience of Safeguarding issues and child protection requirements/legislation and how these apply to the role
Desirable- Experience in chairing best interest meetings and s.42 enquiries
- Experience working in community mental health services.
Skill, knowledge and abilitiesEssential- Ability to represent social work profession both within the Trust and at external meetings as required
- Up to date knowledge of the Children Act and associated legislation and government policy and its implications for mental health services
Desirable- Delivery of formal presentations and teaching sessions.
- Up to date knowledge of evidence-based practice and current developments in perinatal psychiatry.
