Job summary
The Quality Matron is responsible for supporting the Clinical Service Manager for Urgent and Emergency (UEC) and Head of Clinical Pathway for UEC with the clinical quality agenda across the Urgent and Emergency Care teams in GMMH. The UEC teams include Home Based Treatment Team (HBTT), Mental Health Liaison Team (MHLT), Mental Health Urgent Triage (MHUT) and NHS 111.

The post holder will provide clinical leadership to each of the UEC Teams and provide and direction for staff in maintaining clinical standards of care and in implementing clinical and quality service improvements. This includes ensuring that Care Quality Commission (CQC) essential standards are met and exceeded.

Matrons are vital to delivering high quality care to patients and their relatives across the NHS and the wider health and care sector. They are instrumental in promoting high standards of clinical care, reducing health inequalities and promoting equality for all, workforce retention and recruitment, staff education and development, compassionate, inclusive leadership and patient safety.

The matron's role is the cornerstone of improving the quality of patient care. They do this through visible inclusive leadership and engagement with patients and families, frontline staff and senior management teams. Matrons provide key assurance to the board, providing evidence that the organisation is delivering safe care and supporting and developing staff to fulfil their roles.

Main duties of the job
The Matron for Quality will support the Head of Clinical Pathway and wider team to deliver clinical leadership, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective high quality clinical care and consistent achievement of care standards.

Person Specification
Education and Qualification
Essential
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse
  • Evidence of post qualification clinical training/professional development.
  • Extensive experience of working in an urgent and emergency care mental health services in a leadership/managerial position.

Desirable
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • A degree or equivalent in leadership and management

Experience
Essential
  • Experience of working with service users experiencing mental health difficulties in urgent and emergency setting.
  • Audit and research practices relevant to clinical area
  • Quality improvement Delivery

Desirable
  • Experience of high level clinical risk assessment and management
  • Delivery of clinical education
  • QI training at silver level
