Job summary
The St John's Institute of Dermatology is seeking a full time Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Dermatology to join dynamic enthusiastic teams embedded within the forward-thinking Institute. The Institute is involved in many exciting initiatives and is looking for an individual with the appropriate skills to complement our team and to help keep our service at the forefront of clinical and academic excellence. The Institute offers a wide range of services to diverse patient populations with skin conditions. The post-holder will undertake general outpatient sessions along with supporting well-established multi-disciplinary specialist clinics. The post-holder will support wider activities across the Institute, including service development, research and education.

Main duties of the job
To receive subspecialty training and further development in Paediatric Dermatology and the diagnosis and management of Genodermatoses with particular focus on adult epidermolysis bullosa & disorders of keratinisation
To deliver clinical and other service activities in order to provide a high standard of care for children with skin disease and for patients with genodermatoses
To contribute to clinical research activities of St. John's Institute of Dermatology
To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care
To participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training

Job responsibilities
The post holder will provide senior clinical expertise across multiple complex paediatric dermatology services and acute dermatology settings, supporting safe, efficient and high quality care for patients with severe chronic inflammatory and blistering skin diseases.

The post holder will work under consultant supervision and alongside the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver tertiary complex peadiatric dermatology clinics.

Duties and responsibilities:
Clinical:
The postholder will, together with colleagues, be responsible for the provision of dermatology services to the Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust to include:

Diagnosis and treatment of children with skin disease, as well as adults and children with genetic skin diseases (in-patient and outpatient settings)
To be an active member of the multidisciplinary team delivering care to children with skin disease and patients with genodermatoses as part of the extensive tertiary referral service
To provide continuing clinical responsibility for the patient in your charge
To support specialist outpatient clinics (paediatric dermatology, genetics, paediatric allergy & general adult dermatology) as well as collaborating with clinical nurse specialists working in the service

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training:
Essential
  • Full GMC registration and hold a licence to practise
  • MRCP or equivalent

Desirable
  • Post CCST or within 6-months of CCST

Clinical Experience:
Essential
  • Clinical and training experience in dermatology and its subspecialties including paediatric dermatology
  • Broad based general professional training in general medicine
  • Proven track record of general medicine experience
  • Experience in independent skin biopsies

Desirable
  • Experience in skin biopsies in children

Knowledge and Skills:
Essential
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Capable of establishing good interpersonal relationships with patients and staff of all grades
  • Knowledge of prescribing for children

Desirable
  • Competent to work without direct supervision where appropriate

Research:
Essential
  • Understanding of the principles and applications of clinical research

Desirable
  • Evidence of original research
  • Publications in peer review journals

Teaching:
Essential
  • Experience of undergraduate teaching and post graduate training

Desirable
  • Teaching qualification

Other
Essential
  • Evidence of understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Medical Practice set out by the General Medical Council
  • Evidence of contribution to effective clinical audit and clinical risk management

Desirable
  • Experience in clinical guideline development

Management:
Essential
  • Evidence of understanding of the role of clinical management

Desirable
  • Management training or qualification
  • Evidence of leadership in the development of clinical services
