Job summary
St John's Institute of Dermatology is seeking a 12-month fixed term (7 PA) locum consultant. This is a specialist role to support the Supra-Regional Skin Lymphoma service and the tertiary Graft-versus-Host disease service as well as providing provision for local patients to include general and skin cancer clinics. The post may also include clinics and inpatient review of acute dermatology referrals. We are looking for a dynamic applicant who is committed to excellence in patient care and who is forward-looking as we explore innovative ways of delivering our services.

Main duties of the job
The Dermatology Department provides a wide range of multidisciplinary specialist clinics as well as general dermatology services. Formerly a post graduate teaching hospital it is now fully integrated into the Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Guy's and St Thomas' School of Medicine (GKT) of King's College London (KCL). St. John's Institute of Dermatology contributes to GKT research activities as part of the Division of Genetics and Molecular Medicine, GKT Medical School, King's College London and provides an annual MSc postgraduate course. Cutaneous medicine is also one of seven designated themes which form a core component of the Biomedical Research Centre at GSTT and KCL.

This post requires flexible working to provide consistency in patient care. It involves covering various clinics each week with the majority based at the Guy's Hospital site with some commitment to inpatient care at St Thomas'. There may, additionally, be flexibility to provide clinical services across other SE London hospitals depending on service need. We are exploring new ways of working including non face-to-face contact and the post-holder will be asked to contribute to these as appropriate.

Job responsibilities
Provide High Quality Care to Patients

Research, Teaching and Training

• To collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the
• To act as educational supervisor and appraiser as delegated by the Clinical Director to ensure external accreditation of training post.

Performance Management

• Clinical efficiency e.g. length of stay (LOS) reductions, reducing cancelled operations and Did Not Attend (DNA) rates.
• Quality of outcomes e.g. infection control targets, reducing re-admission rates.

Medical Staff Management

• To be responsible for the annual appraisal of all doctors in training, Trust doctors, Clinical Fellows and non-consultant grades as delegated by the Clinical Director/General Manager.

Governance

• To work closely with the Directorate, Patient and Public Involvement panels in relation to clinical and services developments as delegated by the Clinical Director.

Strategy and Business Planning

• To participate in the business planning and objective setting process for the directorate and Trust where appropriate.

Leadership and Team Working

• To work collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and Kings Health Partners as required.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

• Eligible for full UK GMC registration and a Licence to Practise.
• Eligible for full GMC Registration with entry on the Specialist Register for Dermatology, or within 6 months of CCT.

• Higher degree e.g. MSc.
• Possession of PhD or MD.
• Teaching qualification.
• Ability to lead and develop a teaching programme.

Audit management & IT

• Track record of clinical governance, audit, management and IT skills required.

Clinical skills

• Significant expertise in the management of tertiary services in dermatology, cancer and general dermatological patients. A clinical and research interest in Cutaneous Lymphoma/GvHD

Clinical Experience

• Comprehensive clinical experience in Dermatology.
