Main duties of the jobAn exciting opportunity to join our expanding team within the department of Oral Surgery at Guys Hospital.
Applicants are invited for 2 fixed term full time posts in Oral Surgery
The post-holder will undertake outpatient clinic sessions, LA and IV treatment independently at a junior speciality dentist level. They will also be expected to assess and treat patients in Acute Dental Care. There is an expectation for the post-holder to be actively involved in regular audits, service improvement projects and QIPs within the department.

Job responsibilitiesTo provide service in Oral Surgery at GSTFT in accordance with Trust guidelines and strategy of both GSTFT and strategy of KCL Dental Institute To assist in service delivery planning and service management. To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care To take an active part in KCL undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training
Person SpecificationProfessional QualificationsEssentialDesirable- One or more of the following or equivalent qualifications: FDS RCS/MFDS RCS/MFJDP
Clinical ExperienceEssential- Two years post qualification with one year of oral surgery experience
- Experience of oral surgical treatment under local anaesthetic and intravenous sedation
- Experience in treating medically compromised patients
- Basic life support (BLS)
Desirable- Contribution to guidelines or protocols for delivering oral surgery patients
- Experience of contributing to a multidisciplinary team
Audit; Management & ITEssential- An understanding of clinical governance and risk management in the secondary care setting
- Evidence of participation in audit including implementation of outcomes (At least one audit project in last 12 months)
- Appropriate IT skills
Research, Teaching, Skills & ExperienceEssential- Awareness of the role of research in dentistry
- Experience of delivering chair side teaching to undergraduate dental students
Desirable- Involvement in/knowledge of research relevant to Oral Surgery
- Possession of a focused personal research plan
- Presentations at national meetings
- Knowledge of research ethics
Personal QualitiesEssential- Communication: Demonstrate the ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English, build rapport, listen, persuade / negotiate
- Accountability: Demonstrate the ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and exert appropriate authority

OtherEssential- Evidence of understanding of and adherence to the principles of Good Dental Practice set out by the General Dental Council
Desirable- Experience in clinical guideline development
