Are you an Applied Psychologist with an interest in maternal mental health and a drive to make a meaningful difference during pregnancy and beyond?

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate clinician to join our psychology-led Maternity Mental Health Service on a 12 month fixed-term/secondment contract, to deliver specialist care across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Our team supports people experiencing difficulties directly linked to the maternity journey. We pride ourselves on strong partnerships with maternity services and a shared commitment to person-centred, trauma-informed care.

You will provide specialist assessment and intervention, while contributing to service development, multidisciplinary working, and promoting psychological thinking within maternity pathways.

We are looking for someone with strong clinical expertise, able to work collaboratively using trauma-informed, formulation-driven approaches, and skilled in consultation, supervision, and training. Experience in perinatal or physical healthcare settings is desirable, however we welcome applicants with transferable skills and a strong interest in this field.

You will join a small, supportive team of colleagues where reflective practice, supervision, and staff wellbeing are prioritised, alongside opportunities for professional development. The service sits within a wider Perinatal network, with links to the University of Southampton and doctoral training programmes.

Regular regional travel is required.

Main duties of the job
The post-holder will:

• Support a psychologically informed framework of understanding and care within local maternity services.
• Assess and formulate the mental health needs of people experiencing difficulties directly linked to their maternity experience (including tokophobia, maternity trauma, antenatal anxiety and perinatal bereavement).
• Provide evidence-based psychological therapy, as outlined by the NICE Guidelines and Quality Standards Pathway for Antenatal and Postnatal Mental Health Care.
• Offer specialist consultation and psychological supervision for identified maternity staff (including the Specialist Mental Health Midwives, Birth Reflections Midwives and Bereavement Midwives).
• Deliver education and training for staff supporting families across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.
• Undertake line management and clinical supervision within the Service as appropriate, including for trainees on placement.
• Participate in service improvement, audit, and research projects.
• Demonstrate observable outcomes and impact of their work.

Qualifications
Essential

• Doctoral level training (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology and registered with the Health Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist.
• Training in evidence-based psychological therapies for trauma (e.g. trauma-focused CBT or EMDR).

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
