Job summary
Are you interested in working with Children in Care in a CAMHS setting? By joining us as a Children in Care Therapist you will be providing direct evidenced based therapeutic interventions and support to children and adolescents resident in Children's Homes and assess and treat generic referrals within Specialist CAMHS.

In this role you will provide research based, expert clinical consultancy and support, and where agreed supervision and training to foster carers, staff and managers caring for children and adolescents presenting with complex presentations and resident within Local Authority Children's Homes across Hampshire and support to other Specialist CAMHS staff working with children and young people.

You will be a resource to be consulted by CAMHS and Local authority staff and managers regarding care experience children and young people.

This is a part time position, working 22.5 hours per week.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide expert clinical consultancy, support, and where agreed supervision and training to staff and managers caring for children and adolescents with complex needs and expressed behaviours in local authority residential homes across Hampshire.
  • To provide expert clinical consultancy, support, and where agreed, supervision and training to staff and managers caring for children and adolescents from across the county who are seen to be at risk to themselves and / or others. This includes carrying out standardised clinical assessments specifically designed for use with children and adolescents in secure accommodation settings.
  • To provide assessments, consultation and direct therapeutic support for care experienced children and adolescents.
  • To be a resource for consultation by senior managers concerning the setting up of support for local authority residential care managers and staff.
  • To contribute to joint agency planning and support of the Children in Care Specialist Mental Health Service.
  • To provide or be a resource Specialist CAMHS colleagues, contribute to the assessment of young children presenting with complex histories and symptomology by carrying out specialised psychological assessment of patterns of attachment and evidence of complex trauma.
  • To provide specialised therapeutic support to children and families at the specific request of clinical colleagues and Specialist CAMHS managers.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
  • A relevant Specialist CAMHS core Professional Qualification e.g. Child Psychotherapy, Arts & creative therapies, Clinical Psychology, Family Therapy, Nursing or Social Work.
  • MSc/MA or equivalent post-graduate qualification in relevant profession/psychological therapies / psychology.

Experience
Essential
  • Post registration clinical experience (with experience at Senior Level).
  • Proven experience of providing multi-agency consultancy in a specialised field.
  • Proven experience of direct clinical work with a complex client (child / young person and family) group.
  • Clinical supervisory experience.
  • Appraiser experience.
