Description

Job summary
To cover all medical aspects of pain medicine within Pain services across HIOWFHT as a team that can be safely delivered remotely and provide leadership and support to the wider multidisciplinary team. It is expected that exact arrangement of sessions will be agreed between the consultants and cover provided flexibly. Close co-operation is essential. The Pain Consultant will provide expert clinical advice and Guidance and specialist care for patients with persistent pain within a community setting. The role ensures the highest standards of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention, while supporting integrated care across primary, secondary, and community services.

Main duties of the job
  • Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of patients with persistent pain.
  • Deliver specialist remote outpatient care, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning.
  • Deliver evidence-based opinions on diagnosis, utilising imaging and other investigations where appropriate, either directly with patients or in clinical meetings.
  • Offer expert advice on imaging, pathology, and complex differential diagnoses.
  • Support medication management
  • Provide telephone or electronic clinical management of patients as required.
  • Ensure accurate clinical documentation and informed consent processes.
  • Manage referrals, provide triage, advice, and guidance, and oversee discharge planning.
  • Deliver outpatient services remotely for people with persistent pain

Qualifications
Essential
  • FRCA or equivalent
  • CCT in Anaesthesia or within six months of CCT or eligibility for entry on GMC specialist register
  • Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine
