Job summary
We are looking to recruit an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our specialist Neuromodulation Service. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of innovative treatments, including Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) and the ongoing development of Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) services.

Working alongside Senior Nurse Practitioners, Consultant Anaesthetists, Operating Department Practitioners (ODPs), and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will provide expert clinical leadership, advanced assessment, and patient-centred care within a specialist mental health setting.

The successful candidate will practise autonomously within their agreed scope of practice, utilising advanced clinical assessment, diagnostic, and decision-making skills to ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based care. You will also provide specialist advice, education, and support to patients, families, carers, and colleagues, contributing to the continuous improvement and development of neuromodulation services.

This role offers an excellent opportunity to influence service development, shape clinical standards, and support innovative approaches that improve patient outcomes and enhance the quality of care delivered across the service.

Main duties of the job

• Deliver Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) treatments and support the development and delivery of Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) services.
• Provide advanced clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and decision-making within the Neuromodulation Service.
• Work autonomously to deliver safe, effective, and patient-centred care within an agreed scope of practice.
• Offer specialist advice, guidance, education, and support to patients, carers, families, and healthcare professionals.
• Collaborate with Senior Nurse Practitioners, Consultant Anaesthetists, ODPs, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient care.
• Support efficient and innovative ways of working to improve patient experience and service delivery.
• Ensure the safe treatment, referral, and discharge of patients within the service.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical policies, procedures, protocols, and guidelines.
• Support continuous service improvement, clinical governance, and the development of best practice standards.
• Act as a clinical expert within the speciality, promoting excellence in patient care and professional practice.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

• Full Registration with the General Medical Council
• MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
• Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
• At least 3 years' experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist or Associate Specialist or Specialist

Desirable

• Relevant Higher Degree e.g., MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
• Liaison accreditation.
• To hold Approved Clinician status at the point of taking up post
• Medical leadership role

Experience
Essential

• Good knowledge and experience of the operation of the services.
• Knowledge of Trust priorities
• Knowledge of National and Local Clinical Guidelines and Procedures.
• Prior experience of general adult psychiatry
• Prior experience of working with detained/Mental Health inpatients as senior trainee or consultant.
• Experience of audit and an understanding of the principles of clinical governance.
