Job summary
We are seeking to recruit a Clinical Psychologist to work in an Intensive Support Team for adults with learning disabilities, providing support in the community aiming to minimise challenging behaviour, improve quality of life and create effective support systems.

As a qualified psychologist with relevant experience working with people with learning disabilities, you will provide the service with skilled, reliable support in data collection and monitoring, assessment and analysis of the functions of behaviours, helping facilitate staff group training and support sessions and providing direct psychologically informed interventions to clients. You will be part of our in-reach service to Community Learning Disability Teams, providing advice and consultation. You will possess high level written and verbal communication skills and be able to use computer-based programs quickly and efficiently. You will be able to manage your time effectively to complete work to deadlines.

You will work in a multi-disciplinary team as a lead and be able to work well in different systems. You will be required to clinically supervise and line manage different members of the team.

Please note that this vacancy may close earlier than the advertised deadline if we receive a high volume of applications. This post is 22.5 hours per week for 11 months to cover maternity leave.

Main duties of the job
  • To devise, deliver and evaluate highly specialist psychological assessment and treatment interventions for users of the service, including supervising/ consulting to members of staff regarding decisions about appropriate intervention.
  • To use well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, complex highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to patients and other professional colleagues.
  • To provide a highly specialist consultation service, including compilation of summaries and formal reports to professional agencies.
  • To provide clinical supervision to junior staff.
  • To provide management supervision to a range of multi-disciplinary colleagues.
  • To contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of the team's operational policies and services, through the deployment of professional skills in research, service evaluation and audit.
  • To provide training in the use of psychological approaches to other professional staff and agencies.
  • To be aware of the wellbeing of all members of the team and support appropriately, such as by facilitating reflective practice sessions.
  • To undertake appropriate research and provide research advice to other staff undertaking research within the service.
  • To undertake project management, including complex audit and service evaluation to help develop service provision.

  • Registered with the HCPC as a clinical psychologist, and eligible for chartered status with the BPS as a Clinical, Counselling or Forensic Psychologist.
  • Postgraduate level training in clinical psychology including specifically models of psychopathology, risk assessment, and clinical psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological interventions and lifespan developmental psychology as accredited by the BPS.
  • Training/experience in supervision of other psychologists or professionals.
  • Full driving licence and use of own transport.
