Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our dynamic and supportive Prostate Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist Team at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Working across our sites in Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care to men diagnosed with prostate cancer.

This developmental post is suitable for an experienced nurse looking to progress into a specialist role or an established CNS seeking further development. Appointment will be made at Band 6 or Band 7 depending on experience and competency, with a structured development programme available to support progression.

As part of our forward-thinking service, you will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to provide expert clinical support throughout the patient pathway, helping to ensure timely diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of patients with prostate cancer.

Why Join Us?
  • Opportunity to develop into an advanced specialist role.
  • Structured Band 6 to Band 7 development pathway.
  • Work within a supportive and experienced CNS team.
  • Involvement in innovative prostate cancer pathways and diagnostics.
  • Excellent professional development and educational opportunities.

Main duties of the job
  • Working autonomously to provide specialist care and support for patients diagnosed with prostate cancer, ensuring care is delivered in line with national and local standards.
  • Triaging suspected prostate cancer referrals within the Faster Diagnosis Standard (FDS) pathway and supporting the straight-to-test service.
  • Acting as a patient key worker and supporting nurse-led new diagnosis results clinics.
  • Managing a caseload of patients with locally advanced prostate cancer.
  • Supporting the delivery of a seven-day service, where applicable, and participating in service development initiatives.
  • Working collaboratively with the wider urology nursing team, multidisciplinary team (MDT), cancer services and specialist palliative care teams to ensure seamless patient care.
  • High standards of Professional Practice to ensure quality and safety of the patient experience of care when referred from clinical oncology or urology.
  • Assess, plan, and implement any change in treatments, investigations, or onward referrals as necessary. Dependent on disease progression or related side effects.
  • Exercise clinical judgement relating to individual complex care needs, including those where factors may be conflicting, requiring high level analysis and interpretation skills, comparing a range of options to achieve effective treatment or discharge planning.
  • Specialised clinical practice, knowledge, skills, and experience.
  • Leading by example.
