Job summary*Internal Applicants Only*To deliver high-quality, safe and compassionate nursing care to adult inpatients. The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based care, ensuring patients receive an excellent standard of treatment and experience during their hospital stay. The Band 5 Registered Nurse will promote patient independence, dignity, and wellbeing, while contributing to a positive ward culture and continuous service improvement.
Main duties of the job1. Clinical Care- Deliver high-quality, safe and compassionate nursing care in line with NMC standards, Trust policies and evidence-based practice across medical, surgical, frailty, rehabilitation and orthopaedic settings.
- Undertake holistic patient assessments, develop person-centred care plans and evaluate outcomes, adapting to the clinical needs of a diverse inpatient population.
- Perform a full range of ward-based clinical skills (e.g., observations, ECGs, wound care, catheterisation, mobility assessments, post-operative care, and IV therapy where competent).
- Administer medications safely and accurately, following Trust protocols and the NMC Code.
- Monitor, recognise and escalate clinical deterioration using the early warning systems.
- Support safe and effective discharge planning, involving the multidisciplinary team, community services and other external partners.
- Maintain accurate, timely and appropriate documentation using paper and electronic systems.
2. Patient-Centred Communication & Experience- Establish effective therapeutic relationships with patients, carers and families, providing clear information, reassurance and emotional support.
- Promote dignity, independence and personalised care for patients with varying levels of complexity, including frailty or reduced mobility.
- Encourage patient participation in decision-making and advocate for their needs and preferences.

Person SpecificationExperienceEssential- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration or on an NMC approved BSc/MSc nursing programme due to register with the NMC within 12 months.
- Relevant clinical training e.g. BLS, Manual Handling, Infection Control
Desirable- Additional clinical skills such as venepuncture, cannulation, IV drug administration, male and female catheterisation and / or ECG recording.
