Role: Scrub Theatre Practitioner
Location: London, The Portland Hospital
Hours: Permanent, Full time, 37.5 hours per week
Shifts: Monday to Sunday, early and late shifts. Participation in the on call and standby rota, including overnight stay requirements. Typically one in four Saturdays, with occasional Sunday overtime available.

We’re looking for a Scrub Theatre Practitioner to join our Theatre team at The Portland Hospital. As the UK's only private hospital dedicated to women and children, and the largest private children's hospital in the country, you'll be part of a highly specialised environment where every day brings variety and opportunity. As a Scrub Theatre Practitioner in Theatres, you'll join a collaborative and highly skilled team delivering care across paediatric, maternity and adult services. Working within state of the art Elective Theatres and a Hybrid Theatre, you'll support a wide range of acute and complex procedures alongside leading consultants and multidisciplinary colleagues. This is a role that offers genuine clinical breadth, exposure to advanced surgical technologies and the opportunity to develop expertise across multiple specialties. Whether your background is in paediatrics, obstetrics, gynaecology or another surgical discipline, you'll be supported to grow your skills in an environment that values learning, teamwork, recognition and professional development.

The role operates across a varied shift pattern, including early shifts from 7:30am to 4:00pm and late shifts from 11:30am to 9:00pm, 12:30pm to 9:00pm or 7:30am to 9:00pm. You'll also participate in the on call and standby rota, helping to provide emergency and out of hours support when patients need it most. As part of this service, overnight stays within the hospital are typically required around once per week.

What you’ll do:

• Deliver high quality scrub support across a wide range of surgical specialties, including paediatric, adult and maternity services.
• Prepare and maintain theatre equipment, instrumentation and sterile fields in line with best practice and safety standards.
• Work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists and multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure efficient and safe patient care throughout the perioperative pathway.
• Participate in the on call and standby rota, providing support for emergency procedures and out of hours services.
• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, patient safety and clinical excellence within the Theatre team.

What you’ll bring:

• Current HCPC or NMC registration.
• Postgraduate experience working within operating theatres.
• Scrub theatre experience across a range of specialties, including General Surgery, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Cardiac, Neurology, Paediatrics and Obstetrics.
• Strong understanding of aseptic technique, patient safety and theatre best practice.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary environment.
