As a Band 5 Speech & Language Therapist within the preschool team, you will assess, diagnose, and deliver evidence-based interventions to children with speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN). You will play a vital role in empowering parents, carers, and professionals through training, support, and collaborative working. Your work will primarily focus on children within early years settings such as nurseries, Family Hubs, and family homes.
BaseOur Childrens Community Health Team provision supports our Surrey-wide service, and you will be based at one of our Office Hubs across Surrey with the opportunity for hybrid working. Main duties of the jobAs a Bank Speech & Language Therapist within the preschool team, you will assess, diagnose, and deliver evidence-based interventions to children with speech, language, and communication needs (SLCN). You will work primarily with preschool-aged children in early years settings including nurseries, Family Hubs, and family homes. Your responsibilities include high-quality SLT assessments, collaborating with parents and carers to create tailored care plans, providing reports for Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs), and supporting service development. Additionally, you will supervise SLT assistants, deliver training for carers, and participate in multi-agency meetings. A key focus of the role is to empower parents, carers, and professionals through training and collaborative working, enhancing the understanding of SLCN issues, and contributing to the continuous improvement of services. - Plan and deliver training for carers and professionals to enhance understanding of SLCN.
- Participate in multi-agency meetings and safeguarding case conferences as required.
The Ideal CandidateEssential- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree or equivalent (Post Graduate Diploma or MSc in Speech and Language Therapy leading to registration with HCPC)
- Knowledge/training in ASD strategies and interventions e.g. PECS, SCERTS, ADOS
- Health and Care Professions Council Licence to Practice (HCPC)
- Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
- Member of relevant Clinical Excellence Network
- Specialist knowledge of assessments and interventions for client group
- Knowledge of national and local policies and procedures relevant to client group and role.
- Awareness of policies and procedures relating to Child Protection
- Experience of managing own caseload and to work effectively with a range of client groups
Desirable- Knowledge /training in PCI, Hanen strategies.
- Knowledge/training in educational training packages e.g. ELKLAN, WellComm
- Knowledge/training in signing e.g. Makaton
- Demonstrable experience of working in the NHS
