An exciting opportunity has arisen for a compassionate, motivated, and enthusiastic Forensic Staff Nurse to join the team at Beech Ward, based in Radlett, Hertfordshire.
Beech Ward is a 15-bed low secure forensic mental health service for men with mental illness and offending histories, providing specialist assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation within a safe and therapeutic environment. The service offers a range of psychological, psychiatric, behavioural, and rehabilitative interventions that support service users in preparing for successful reintegration into the community.
As a Staff Nurse, you will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team, delivering high-quality, person-centred care whilst promoting recovery, wellbeing, and positive outcomes for service users. Main duties of the jobAs a Forensic Staff Nurse, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, recovery-focused care within a low secure forensic environment. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support service users through their rehabilitation journey, promoting safety, wellbeing, and positive outcomes.
In addition to providing direct clinical care, you will assist in the effective management of the ward by helping to coordinate shifts and supporting the Charge Nurse and Team Leader in maintaining a safe, therapeutic, and responsive service. You will act as a positive role model, providing guidance and support to junior staff, students, and new team members. The role includes a requirement to work a full range of shifts, including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
We are seeking a Registered Mental Health Nurse who can demonstrate excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities within a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be compassionate, resilient, and non-judgemental, with a calm and professional approach to challenging situations. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, alongside a sound understanding of relational security and the importance of building therapeutic relationships within forensic services.

Job responsibilitiesAs a Forensic Staff Nurse on Beech Ward, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, recovery-focused care within a specialist low secure forensic service. Working as part of a skilled multidisciplinary team, you will support service users through assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and recovery, promoting positive outcomes and maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Acting as the Named Nurse for an identified group of service users, coordinating and delivering holistic, person-centred care through assessment, care planning, implementation, and review.
- Ensuring the requirements of the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, safeguarding legislation, and Trust policies are understood, applied, and adhered to at all times.
- Working collaboratively and flexibly within the multidisciplinary team to deliver high standards of clinical care and support service users throughout their recovery journey.
- Supporting the day-to-day running of the ward, helping to coordinate clinical activities and providing supervision, guidance, and support to junior colleagues, students, and new members of staff as required.
- Building positive therapeutic relationships with service users, carers, and families, ensuring their views are heard and actively encouraging involvement in care planning and decision-making.
- Contributing to the maintenance of a safe, therapeutic environment by promoting relational security, positive risk management, and recovery-focused practice.
About YouTo be successful in this role, you will be:
- A Registered Nurse (RNMH, RNLD, RMN or RGN) with current NMC registration.
- Experienced in care planning, clinical assessment, and risk management.
- Passionate about delivering compassionate, person-centred care within a forensic mental health setting.
- An excellent communicator with strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Organised and resilient, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a dynamic environment.
