We are a thriving, friendly, partner-led, training practice (6 partners, 4 salaried) who strive to offer the best aspects of traditional General Practice, whilst taking advantage of new opportunities & novel ways of working for the benefit of our patients and loyal team.
Days of the week worked will be Monday, Thursday and Friday. The day (two sessions) would consist of 25 patients (face to face or telephone calls) in line with BMA safe working. The consultations will be a mix of urgent and routine.
Main duties of the jobTo perform as an autonomous General Practitioner working independently and with other health care professionals to assess, diagnose and treat the conditions of patients attending within a primary care setting. Provide expert professional advice to patients, carers and colleagues and ensure the maintenance of clinical excellence. To be involved in the provision of education and training to GP ST3s and other staff. To be professionally accountable and responsible for all elements of clinical practice in accordance with the GMC code of conduct ensuring the safety of patients and quality of their care is primary.
About usList size 12,500 patients. Our multi-disciplinary team includes a strong Pharmacy team, 6 GP Partners, 4 Salaried GPs, full Nursing team, ANP, Physiotherapist, Care Co-ordinator and Social Prescriber. We train ST1 - 3s and host Oxford University Med Students. Excellent local visiting service reduces the need for GP visits. Experienced data team deal with most correspondence, minimising GP admin. Currently finessing our clinical triage system; enhancing continuity alongside availability.
We are situated close to Horton General Hospital, which has a GP-friendly, consultant-led Ambulatory Care Unit and full DGH services. We are one of three practices in our small PCN, of which one partner is the Clinical Director.
Banbury is a growing market town on the edge of the beautiful Cotswold countryside, close to Oxford, Stratford upon Avon, Warwick and Bicester Village. Good choice of schools (state and private). Excellent transport links to London, Birmingham & rest of the UK both by rail & motorway.

Job responsibilities- In accordance with the practice rota, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing/authorising repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
- Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation
- Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems
- Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness
- In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health
- Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards
- Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions
- Prescribing in accordance with the ICB prescribing formulary whenever this is clinically appropriate
- The post-holder may be expected to take part in the Enhanced access rota.
- The post-holder will undertake a fair share of home visits per week as per practice arrangements. There is a local visiting service so it is anticipated that GP visiting will be rarely needed (and is mostly to palliative care patients).
Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- Qualified GP.
- MRCGP.
- General Practitioner Certificate of Completion of Training CCT.
- Full GMC registration.
- National Performers List registration (England), noting that confirmation on this list is adequate for DBS confirmation.
- Appropriate defence indemnity (MPS or MDU).
- Evidence of current validation.
- Evidence of last appraisal.
- Eligibility to practice in the UK independently.
- Full, clean driving license
ExperienceEssential- Experience of working in a primary care environment.
- Experience of continued professional development.
- Experience of QOF and clinical audit.
- General understanding of the primary care contract.
