Job summaryHywel Dda Radiology is looking to recruit a dynamic and motivated Consultant Radiologist with a special interest in breast radiology. Applicants will be experienced in general radiology and symptomatic breast radiology. The Health Board offers an excellent opportunity to join a progressive team of 24 consultants and contribute to the on-going development of radiological services within the Hywel Dda University Health Board. Enquiries are also welcomed from those interested in a position less than full time or working exclusively in breast radiology. There is also the potential for screening sessions within the Welsh Breast Screening Programme delivered by Breast Test Wales.
The successful candidate will be expected to be based at Bronglais General Hospital, Ceredigion and there will be an expectation to travel and work at the other two main sites, which deliver symptomatic breast clinics, namely Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli and Withybush General Hospital in Pembrokeshire. This expectation will be occasional in line with service need.
Main duties of the jobThis is a new post based at Bronglais General Hospital, Aberystwyth joining 1 Consultant Breast Radiologist, 1 Speciality Grade Doctor and 1 Consultant Radiographer providing breast radiology services to the population of Hywel Dda University Health Board. The post holder should be competent in mammography reporting, breast and axillary ultrasound, and image guided biopsy of the breast and axilla. It would also be desirable if the Radiologist has experience in additional procedures such as vacuum assisted biopsy/ excision, preoperative localisation techniques, Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (DBT) and breast MRI reporting. Experience of contrast enhanced mammography would also be desirable. The post holder will be expected to undertake symptomatic breast assessment clinics and actively participate in the breast MDT. Cross-site collaboration with respect to reporting or MDT meetings is usually done via Teleradiology and video conferencing. Office accommodation, secretarial support and full IT facilities including access to intranet and internet is provided.

Job responsibilitiesThe departments of Radiology at the acute sites operate strategically as one department and there is close collaboration leading to the integration of services. The successful candidate will fully participate with the existing consultants in providing radiology services across Hywel Dda and will be expected to further develop their sub-specialist interest, which would augment and compliment the services currently provided.
The successful candidate will participate in the daytime Duty Radiologist rota covering inpatient scanning which could include cross cover from the base site. A proportion of the out of hours (OOH) on call is currently outsourced and completed remotely by an online Teleradiology provider. However, the directorate is currently subject to transformation bringing a proportion of this service in-house. The successful candidate will participate in the new internal on-call rota. This will include providing and promoting a flexible approach by contributing to this service completing cross-site reporting and emergency cover for our four main hospital sites where necessary on site and remotely from home.

Person SpecificationQualifications and KnowledgeEssential- Full registration and a License to Practice with the General Medical Council.
- On the GMC Specialist Register (including via Portfolio Pathway (CESR)/European Community Rights) or will have CCT due within six months of interview date.
- Valid Certified Advanced Life Support.
- Where a sub-specialty interest is required sub-specialty training should be to a level appropriate for UK consultant sub-specialist practice - fellowship or equivalent level experience.
