Description

Job summary
Imperial hosts the national centre for adult airway reconstruction. The service is run by Prof Guri Sandhu, Mr Chadwan Al Yaghchi and Ms Aphrodite Iacovidou supported by 2 doctoral speech and language therapists, 2 airway clinical nurse specialists, MDT co-ordinator and clinical psychologist.

The service primarily cares for patients with Airway Stenosis a chronic condition in which patient's airways contract over time which without intervention would lead to asphyxiation. The most common cause of Airway Stenosis is laryngeal damage from prolonged ITU stays. Over half of all referrals come from outside London, we are looking to expand the unit whereby both the surgeon and anaesthetist are national experts in managing these complex patients. There is a significant cohort of patients who have surgery multiple times per year to repair and expand their airway. The service has increasing demand following the Covid-19 pandemic and a locum appointment is sought to manage this new caseload as well as provide vital support for the tertiary service.
