Job Summary
Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs) deliver personalised care in line with NHS cancer plan, using holistic needs assessment (HNA) to meet changing needs.

Cancer CNSs make sure that people affected by cancer have access to the range of cancer resources and services available, receive appropriately timed information and support and have access to a specialist cancer nurse throughout their entire cancer journey from diagnosis, through treatment to Living with and Beyond Cancer or end of life care.

Cancer CNSs actively engage with the cancer management team, the wider trust, RM Partners cancer alliance and other stakeholders as appropriate to continuously raise the profile of cancer nursing, promote patient centred services, contribute to cancer care within their speciality and ensure high quality cancer care.

The Gestational Trophoblastic Disease and Rare Gynaecological Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team supports patients diagnosed with Gestational Trophoblastic Disease, Ovarian Germ Cell Cancer and other rare gynaecological cancers within Imperial College.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated nurse to join this busy service. You will have the opportunity to gain expert experience and enhanced knowledge, working alongside the multi-disciplinary team. You will provide support, education and specialist advice to patients, carers and health professionals on a range of issues relating to these rare diseases.

Main duties of the job
  • To work as autonomous practitioners providing specialist nursing advice, care and support, facilitating high quality, individualised care to patients and those important to them.
  • To be aware of their own limitations and recognise the parameters of scope of practice of themselves and other's.
  • To provide support to inpatients and outpatients in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team and in line with local and national targets and initiatives.
  • To promote a culture that delivers patient centred care throughout the pathway, contributing to improved patient experience.
  • To act as a professional role model, providing expert direct and indirect clinical care, teaching, research and leadership. They require knowledge, skills and behaviours across all four pillars of advancing practice.

Person Specification

Education/Qualifications
Essential
  • NMC registration and a degree in related subject
  • Post registration qualification(s) in speciality or relevant subject (cancer care)
  • Advanced Communication course and Level 2 psychological skills training
  • Recognised teaching qualification or demonstrable teaching experience

Desirable
  • MSc or MA in related speciality
  • Recognised physical assessment module at level 7
  • Leadership course
  • Quality improvement training

Experience
Essential
  • Relevant and substantial post registration experience at band 6 or above to speciality
  • Experience of working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Experience of teaching and assessing others
  • Experience of audit and service development

Desirable
  • Experience of leading and managing
  • Research experience

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
Essential
  • In depth knowledge of speciality and use of evidence-based practice

Desirable
  • Ability to lead and influence change
  • Ability to design and deliver education programmes
