Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced nurse to join our Paediatric Infectious Diseases and HIV CNS team on a fixed-term basis to provide maternity leave cover.

This is an exciting opportunity to deliver specialist nursing care to children, young people and their families affected by infectious diseases and HIV. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing expert clinical support, care coordination, patient education, and advocacy across inpatient and outpatient settings.

Applicants should be a registered children's nurse with significant paediatric experience. Previous experience in infectious diseases, HIV, or a specialist nursing role is desirable. Excellent communication, organisational, and leadership skills are essential.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide specialist nursing care and advice on all matters relating to the prevention, diagnosis and management of Paediatric Infectious diseases across Children's Services, young adult HIV transition services, Maternity and Neonatal services and adult Hepatology services.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge as a visible, accessible resource for children, families and professional colleagues both within and outside the trust
  • Work with colleagues to ensure a consistent approach to Paediatric ID nursing across all areas of responsibility, through teaching, audit, collaborative working and the development of shared procedures and guidelines
  • Manage various patient caseloads within Paediatric ID, including organising and following-up on clinical investigations; developing individual care-plans; supporting treatment adherence; facilitating multi-disciplinary and multi-agency collaboration; co-ordinating admissions and outpatient appointments; supporting discharge and communicating information to young people and families
  • Work on a one-to-one basis with individual children and young people, to obtain consent for investigations, provide age-appropriate information about diagnosis, treatment and prevention of onward transmission; to promote engagement with and adherence to treatment; to identify safeguarding concerns and to prepare young people for transition to adult care

Education
Essential
  • Registered Nurse, RN Child /RSCN
  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject area or equivalent experience
  • Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable
  • Post registration qualification in specialty
  • Recognised leadership qualification or equivalent experience

Skills
Essential
  • Proven leadership skills through experience of leading a team
  • Commitment to improving patient services with a clear focus on achieving performance goals
  • Expert clinical skills and excellent knowledge base pertaining to speciality
  • Organisational and people management skills

Desirable
  • Willingness to broaden clinical skills to support clinical role

Experience
Essential
  • Minimum of 2 yrs at Band 6 within specialty or equivalent experience
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of current issues in specialty
  • Experience and knowledge of quality, standard setting and audit
  • Experience developing and writing local and national guidelines

Desirable
  • Experience working with children and young people with mental health problems
  • Experience running support groups with children / young people / families
  • Experience working with refugees and Asylum seeking Families and Unaccompanied Minors
