Job summary
We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Clinical Research Nurse to oversee the setup, delivery and management of our infectious diseases, haematology and paediatric intensive clinical research studies.

The successful applicant will also provide staff management support for the research delivery team, working alongside and supporting Lead Paediatric Research Nurse and the other Band 7 Senior Research Nurses.

This post offers an enthusiastic, hardworking, and highly motivated individual the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of our study portfolio and the children's clinical research delivery team.

The post-holder will work collaboratively with the research team and the wider multidisciplinary team, acting as a knowledgeable resource for staff, researchers, research participants and their families. The post holder will be expected to promote research awareness across the Trust, liaising with other teams and engaging in Trust wide research initiatives.

They will be involved in ensuring that any research undertaken within the department safeguards patients' well-being and is conducted in accordance with ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines for Research. They will contribute to the development and delivery of local policies involving all aspects of the research process and provide training and supervision for CCRF staff and visiting researchers.Previous experience in clinical research in an NHS setting and general paediatrics is essential.

Main duties of the job
  • The post holder will support the aims of the Trust and the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) in developing both clinical and academic research knowledge and skills to improve the speed, quality and integration of clinical research in the NHS.
  • The focus of the role will be to provide a grounding in clinical practice and an academic framework conducting research particularly focusing on paediatric infectious diseases, haematology and respiratory research studies.
  • Act as a recognised expert and professional role model within the clinical research environment, including direct and indirect clinical care, teaching, audit and research projects, which will involve managing a wide range of complex and sometime conflicting priorities. Provide safe, high quality, individualised, evidence-based nursing care with the support and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, developing the specialist clinical skills and knowledge to achieve the competences required in order to carry out all relevant duties without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the research environment to support the delivery and development of research portfolios to take responsibility for the co-ordination and management of clinical research projects.

Education/ qualifications
Essential
  • Registered Nurse
  • Teaching Qualification or equivalent experience
  • Relevant clinical post registration course - completed or in progress
  • Graduate (degree/diploma) with specialist expertise across a range of procedures

Desirable
  • Management qualification or equivalent experience
  • Advanced practice qualification
  • Leadership qualification

Experience
Essential
  • Significant post registration experience in specialty area and experience in either junior specialty role or team leader/ward management role
  • Knowledge of quality, standard setting, benchmarking and audit
  • Experience with managing patient relevant to specialist area
  • Knowledge of National Institute of Health Research (NIHR), its values, aims and structure

Desirable
  • Experience as a team leader
  • Clinical Research and audit experience
  • Knowledge or involvement in QI initiatives

Skills/knowledge/ abilities
Essential
  • Demonstrate commitment through involvement in Trust wide initiatives/ committees
  • Able to demonstrate highly developed specialist knowledge of own patient group
  • Demonstrate the ability to compile complex written information
  • Knowledge of research and audit including implementation of findings and review of outcomes

Desirable
  • Demonstrate commitment through involvement in Trust wide initiatives/ committees
  • Advanced IT skills use or Excel
