Description

Bank Community IV Nurse
Flexible Hours | Approximately 20–30 Hours per Week | Community-Based

The Role
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Bank Community IV Nurse to join our community nursing service, working approximately 20–30 hours per week on a flexible basis.

You will provide high-quality, patient-centred intravenous therapy and specialist nursing care to patients in their own homes and community settings.

Supporting patients throughout their treatment journey, you will deliver prescribed IV therapies, undertake clinical assessments and monitoring, and provide education and support to patients, families and carers. You will help patients feel confident managing their treatment while ensuring care is delivered safely and in accordance with clinical standards.

Working closely with pharmacists, consultants, specialist nurses and other healthcare professionals, you will play an important role in enabling patients to receive specialist treatment safely outside of the hospital environment.

As a bank nurse, you will have the opportunity to work flexibly while maintaining your clinical skills and delivering meaningful one-to-one patient care in the community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver safe and effective IV therapies in patients' homes and community settings in accordance with clinical guidelines, Service Operating Procedures and prescribed treatment plans.
  • Administer prescribed intravenous medications and therapies safely and effectively.
  • Undertake patient assessments and provide appropriate monitoring throughout treatment.
  • Undertake home and community visits for therapy initiation, administration and follow-up.
  • Provide education, training and ongoing support to patients, families and carers.
  • Promote patient confidence, independence and adherence to prescribed therapy.
  • Provide appropriate care and management of vascular access devices in line with clinical and infection prevention standards.
  • Recognise changes in a patient's condition and escalate clinical concerns appropriately.
  • Identify, document and report adverse events and incidents in accordance with relevant procedures.
  • Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical documentation.
  • Ensure clinical equipment is maintained appropriately and medicines and associated supplies are handled safely.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to support continuity of patient care.
  • Organise and prioritise allocated patient visits effectively.
  • Adhere to safeguarding, infection prevention, medicines management, clinical governance and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain professional registration and take responsibility for ongoing Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

What We're Looking For
Essential
  • Registered Nurse with current NMC or NMBI registration.
  • Minimum of 1 year post-registration nursing experience.
  • Full UK or Irish driving licence.
  • Strong clinical assessment and communication skills.
  • Ability to work confidently and independently in patients' homes.
  • Good organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to recognise clinical deterioration and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Confident using digital systems for clinical documentation and communication.
  • Enhanced DBS (or equivalent) and satisfactory medical clearance.
  • Ability to work approximately 20–30 hours per week, with flexibility according to patient and service requirements.

Desirable
  • Previous experience in IV therapy, infusion services or community nursing.
  • Experience with vascular access devices and IV medication administration.
  • Experience within oncology, gastroenterology, infectious diseases, nutrition support, homecare or other specialist therapies.
  • Experience caring for patients receiving complex or long-term therapies in their own homes.
  • Relevant degree, specialist nursing qualification or post-registration clinical qualification.

What's on Offer
  • Bank position with approximately 20–30 hours per week.
  • Flexible working opportunities to fit around other commitments.
  • Competitive bank rate.
  • Community-based role offering autonomy and variety.
  • Opportunity to maintain and develop specialist IV and community nursing skills.
  • Ongoing professional development and relevant clinical training.
  • Support from an experienced multidisciplinary and clinical team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Registered Nurse looking for flexible bank work while continuing to develop specialist clinical skills and provide high-quality one-to-one care in the community.

If you are looking for flexibility, professional autonomy and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to patients receiving treatment at home, we would love to hear from you.
