Job summaryWe are looking to recruit a Band 4 Phlebotomy Supervisor to expand our team working across Basildon and Thurrock University Hospital, Southend University Hospital, Broomfield Hospital and other local community clinics throughout South Essex.
As a Phlebotomy Supervisor you will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of phlebotomy staff in outpatients, wards and the community (including domiciliary).
You will be expected to work across all sites and ,shifts are variable between 6.15am and 7pm Monday to Friday with regular weekends on a rotational basis.
This role is ideally suited for someone who is experienced, caring, friendly and would like to be a part of a team that contributes towards patient care. You will need excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work and communicate with a large team across multiple sections.
A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle is essential, as you will be required to travel to a variety of community clinic locations.
Main duties of the jobThe Phlebotomy Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day delivery of the Phlebotomy service, providing leadership, support and development to the team. The role manages staffing, rotas, training, performance and absence, while ensuring high standards of quality, safety and patient care. The postholder will monitor service performance, contribute to continuous improvement and deputise for and support the Phlebotomy Manager as required.

Job responsibilities- Supervise the daily operation of the Phlebotomy service, ensuring appropriate staffing and professional standards.
- Supervise staff performance, sickness absence, appraisals, training, competencies and development.
- Coordinate rotas, annual leave, overtime and shift cover to meet service requirements.
- Maintain effective communication with staff, patients and internal and external service users.
- Maintain quality and safety documentation, including SOPs, risk assessments, COSHH assessments and audits.
- Monitor incidents, errors, complaints, KPIs and service performance, taking action to address areas of concern.Support recruitment, interviewing and induction of new Phlebotomy staff.
- Monitor stock, equipment and supplies to ensure continuity of service.
- Maintain patient confidentiality, infection control, cleanliness and safe working practices.
- Provide support to the Phlebotomy Management team and contribute to the continuous improvement of the service.
QualificationsEssential- 3 GCSE 'O' levels or equivalent which must include English
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent experience
- Phlebotomy qualification
ExperienceEssential- Substantial experience in phlebotomy
- Paediatric experience
- Domiciliary experience
- Previous experience and confidence using IT applications including Microsoft Office and Outlook
Skills & KnowledgeEssential- Demonstrable customer service experience in a healthcare environment
- Ability to work under pressure
- Excellent written and spoken English Language skills
- Full UK driving licence and use of car for work
Desirable- Previous hospital patient facing work
- Basic CPR and First Aid Knowledge and competency
